I have 2 (10 rnd) boxes of 9x57 Kynoch (245gr.) I am giving to a friend in Smithers - if he ever gets around to visiting. lol $4.00 each ($5.00 Cdn) at Midway - WOW! Appears 'Bob' is getting a deal. |

Otherwise, I would likely have bought all eight boxes that were available (as of last night - they're down to 3 now). I paid over $3 each for 9.5X57 Qual cart brass a few months back. Would have jumped at Kynoch brass alone at this price. |

imho, the rare brass with kynoch headstamp is made by horneber or bertram |

Watch Midway for their 'bulk lots' of .375 270 grain RN 'blems' that have been offered from time to time. They are identical in every way to Hornady #3715 and I got some for 28.5 cents each a while back. This was another offering at .56 each: Midway |

I'd buy some except no way to get them to me. |

Quote: Hornady stopped selling 270g RN projectiles (#3715) some years ago. I have ordered these from Midway and compared them to Hornady 3715 and am 98.5% convinced they are the same. I haven't researched it, but suspect that Hornady may be producing them for Remington and or other mfrs of .375 H&H with 270 grain RN. To guess further, and as there is no defect to be found on them, these 'factory seconds' may simply be 'over runs'. Midway |

I have seen in print, that the Hornady 270RN was tougher & a better perpetrator than the 300gr. RN. I'm not sure why, as the jackets are not heavier, so perhaps the cores are of slightly harder alloy. I have a few left, not many. |

Quote: This is an old urban legend. Elmer Keith once wrote in his book " Keith's Rifles for Large Game" the .375 270 gr bullets being tougher and better penetrators than the 300 grainers. Himself, he repeated that sentence in other articles, f.i. in "Guns & Ammo". Others took these words of the old master as gospel and recited them again and again, without really checking or testing. Keith's book was first published in 1946. Hornady bullets did not even exist then. Keith wrote this, based on limited eperience, about the only pre-WW2 made in USA factory loads of the .375 H&H Magnum, offered then by Winchester - Western. Many others simply copied and pasted the verdict without checking the background. So everyone assumed the 270 grainers, regardless of make and construction, being tougher than the 300 grainers. |

I have a multitude of the blemished (Hornady??) from Midway in 270 and 300 grain. The 300 appear to be 300 Grain DGS and are copper clad steel jackets as they attract a magnet. The 270's do look like the old Hornady's and weigh and measure out consistently with no visible flaws. The 300's weigh and measure out well but the peddles at the nose are not formed perfectly. I would call them a visual flaw. I took each to the belt sander and the 300's throw sparks. No matter...I can not detect any less accuracy at 100 yards than full cost bullets in a Whitworth .375. |

Quote: Paradox, Can I ask where did you source them and what exactly did you get? I am assuming you are referring to 270 gr RN SP projectiles? Thanks. And anyone else, any idea of where some 270 gr RN SP's of decent (ie hunting eg sambar, maybe bovines) or indecent (ie target shooting) construction would be available from? Thanks. I remember a thread discussing 270 gr RN SPs for the 9.5x57 and think this is the thread. Otherwise I have not found the recent specific thread yet. |

Woodleigh make a 270 grain RNSN. Matt. |

Quote: True. Funny I thought they did. During a past discussion on NE, I believed it was said they no longer did. And I am sure I checked the Woodleigh online listing and it was not listed on there. BUT I checked again after your post, and a 270 gr RNSP is definitely listed there today. So good news for me. Perfect for my needs. 42 .375" 270gr RN SN 50 .274 .250 1900-2400 1.088 Maybe I was confused with something else??? EDITED: I see I was mis-remembering, and the comments were that the various 270 gr RNSP bullets were too hard and might not expand at .375 NE velocities. http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=319619&an=&page=0&vc=1 |

Yes, there was a discussion as to whether or not they would be to hard for the 375NE 2 1/2 however as yours is the 2 1/4 rimless which is quite a bit faster they seem to work well. They also feed very nicely. Matt. |

Quote: Hornady 3715 was once the 'economy' go - to, now largely extinct. If you find some, buy it. Kuduae has posted regarding proper feeding of the M1910 including specific seating depths for some alternate bullets. The Woodleighs should be just right. I believe that's what Kynoch fills them with. For smooth function of the Schoenauer magazine, build them exactly like this: |
