There's a reason that wasn't done more often.

Grotesque is a word that comes to mind.

If they wanted the handle there, they should have just bought a M98.

Well, I've seen uglier...but not by much.

A similar, but even more cumbersome modification of a Haenel M 1900:

Kuduae

That one takes the prize foe the most ugly...not to mention impractical!

Re: Model 1910 with an unusual custom bolt handle.

I remember the Model 1900 Haenel bolt handle as the owner contacted me about it.

A PO, probably a long time ago as in original owner, wanted this bolt handle extension for some reason. This bolt handle will swing down giving a lever about twice as long as the original. Perhaps the PO had some strength issue in the right hand/arm and needed the extra leverage to open the bolt.

We will never know why this was sone but somebody had what they thought was a good reason.

Makes sense though what you are saying. At least that would work for someone with a weak arm.

You only have to have a look at all the special modifications that were made to the guns and rifles that the Kaiser used to see ideas like that.

The first picture though is just straight out hideous.

This one appears to be modified for a one armed shooter:
