Finally received my MS model 1892

Picked up the Model 1892 from customs. Caliber is .375 2 1/2" flanged.
Bore is great but someone has mistreated it a bit. Put away wet or just not oiled enough. Very happy with it though. A surprise Holt's didn't mention that it was retailed by Holland & Holland and is marked on top of the barrel as "Shot and regulated by H&H with address". Have to load up some ammo in the next few days and take it to the range.

Looking good , Mike.

Make sure you check the web in the stock between the magazine and trigger for cracks.
Mannlichers are bad for this, you may want to put a larger recoil plate behind the fore arm
screw boss and the front bedding screw boss, especially with the 375.
Don't ask me how I know this......

The RL-15 cordite multiplier works absolutely wonderfully with this cartridge and an old
Hornady 270 grain round nose.

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

One very nice piece of kit Casper!
I see that it has 1893 on the side of the action - is that its manufacture date?
Will certainly make a good game getter regardless, the .375 2 1/2" is certainly no slouch!
Can't wait to see what loads you cook up.
Cheers

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

Another Beauty you beat me on, I didnt think it looked that nice from the Holts pic's .

I have one in .375Ex by WR in SA waiting for me & a .375Ex Lee Speed here & two rebored .375 barrels for Speeders waiting in the US.

Again nice pick up, I really like the grip capped, forend tipped model stocks !

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

Casper, very nice rifle indeed, in a splendid caliber. I hope you'll harvest loads of game with it in Alaska; are you going to get it scoped? By the way, would it be possible to know which average time it usually takes between the Holt's auction date and the day you receive your item in Alaska? In my place of Western Europe, it takes around 4 weeks.

For those still looking for a nice Model 1892 for their gun rack after Casper won the Holt's one, there is one available at http://www.dorleac-dorleac.com/arme/steyr-1892-256-stalking-rifle-2/?lang=en

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

I wouldn't call this rifle Mannlicher Schönauer but instead of that Steyr Mannlicher. The reason is truth that it doesn´t have that famous magazine designed by Otto Karl Schönauer. But despite that very nice rifle, indeed.

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

Learned something today so it's not a total loss. lol The part that slows the delivery down is the form 6 from the ATF if it's not pre 1898. Up to 6 months. I've found a cheaper service to get them over to me so it won't take so long now. This one took 1 week from the time I said send it to the time it arrive in Anchorage. It is a pre 1898 so no paperwork was needed.

Nice looking gun. I have a similar one by WR Pape but in 6.5x53 Rimmed. What area of Alaska? I'm in Wasilla.

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

Nice area. One of my buddies owns a cabin in Sterling. We usually spend a little time there with him every year.

We'll be looking forward to some pictures this season of the new rifle and the moose you get with it.

Nice, Casper50 - We expect to see pictures of a moose/deer/bear or anything else taken with it this fall.

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

THanks Mart I bought both boxes. Can't have too much brass at that price. I'm taking it on my annual moose/black bear/ grizzly/ caribou trip but until I get a moose for the freezer my main rifle will be my .338 BAR. The .375 will ride on the raft in easy reach in case I see one up close but I don't want to have to pass on a moose at 300 or 400 yds because of no scope.

Re: Finally received my MS model 1892

Since it was reblued poorly I'm going to have it redone correctly. Anyone know of an engraver that would be interested in redoing the "Shot and regulated by H&H with address" on the barrel? Want to have that redone first.
