Offer: MS in 8x56 and 9,5x57

Gentlemen,

due to space problems I would like to sell two rifles from Steyr/Mannlicher company:

- 8x56 M. Sch. with an old (pre WW2) scope, reticle type like Duplex
- 9,5x57 M. Sch. with a new Zeiss 1,5-6x42 reticle 4

It is only possible to sell these rifles to German cititzens and owners of the correct permission (Jagdschein). Both rifles can be tested on a nearby shooting range (Ingolstadt/Bavaria/Germany).

If someone is interested: please send me a PM.
I will then send more details with photos etc.

best regards
Rolf

PS: I hope this is the correct forum for the offer, if not: I apologize!

Re: Offer: MS in 8x56 and 9,5x57

Hello Gentlemen,

thank you for the replies!

@Sarg:
AAt the Moment I do not have photos, but I will take some an send These to you if you can give me a mai adress via PM

@Steve:
I tested both rifles but I like more the Mauser 98 System.
So, these rifles are completely wasted in my possession and are looking for a better home...

Can I (as an alternative) also use your 454 Casull for rock chucks or squirrels?
:-)
(However, with my handgun-skills these animals are pretty safe if they are not in a telephone booth with me)

best regards
Rolf

Rolf,

With a little luck, I am testing for my Jagdschein on Saturday. I've just found a 1910 Carbine, I'm not sure if my wife will allow me another. But I will ask!

Can you PM me what you were thinking on prices? I am in Stuttgart.

Re: Offer: MS in 8x56 and 9,5x57

Well Rolf, I got to be good with a handgun from shooting rabbit and chucks when I was a kid. I killed LOTS of them with 44 magnums. So I think using the 454 for chucks is a good idea. It builds skill.

If possible, please post some pictures of these 2 rifles. We'd all love to see them.

I made a 6.5X54 for myself last year. I think it will be a wonderful little deer gun for hunting in the brush down below my house on the river. I have hunted with it a little so far. more in the future.
Here is what it looks like.

Lovely rifle, Steve. The utter simplicity of hunting with an iron sighted rifle is very attractive.

My one and only hunt with my 9.3x57 was with my late hunting buddy Brad, being my second-last hunt with Brad. I shot a large bull moose calf that trip - 200 yard shot, was as easy as if I'd had a scope on the rifle, maybe easier - just up and "POW" - all over except for the work.

Re: Offer: MS in 8x56 and 9,5x57

As I get older I find that open iron sights are not easy for me to use in dim light. But for hunting in good light I still like open sights or peep sights.

I have conceded to scopes on guns that I used with iron sights for years, but this "getting old stuff" doesn't seem to have a re-set button.

Getting old ain't for kids.

Re: Offer: MS in 8x56 and 9,5x57

Gentlemen,

last weekend I had time to make some photos of the 9,5x57 M.Sch.

As I am unable to upload photos here I would kindly ask everybody interested in photos for a mail adress where I can send a .pdf-data attachment.

@ Lancaster and Sarg:
You already received a mail!

@ Steve:
That is a very attractive looking rifle!
Do you form the cases from common brass or do you use old RWS or Hirtenberger cases?

best regards
Rolf

Damn it is a stutzen as well.

Are you sure you can't export to a buyer in Australia?

Re: Offer: MS in 8x56 and 9,5x57

Hi Rolf

I am using PPU brass for my 6.5. It seems to be quite good and it's not very expensive here in the USA. I use 160 grain bullets. Hornady still makes them from time to time. The rifle doesn't feed spitzers. Only round noses. The feed ramp aligns the bullets with the chamber with RN bullets but the spitzers do not lift high enough to hit the chamber. So I use the old style RN bullets and all is well. I hope to kill a few deer and antelope with this rifle this year. Maybe even an elk.

I've never seen the front sight set that far back on a M/S. What variation is that?
