1905 Mannlicher Schoenauer availability?

Good day members.
Question: How available is the 1905 Mannlicher Schoenauer rifle? Did most of the Mannlicher Schoenauers 1903-1905 come with full stock? There is currently a 1905 Mannlicher Schoenauer an owner wants to know what the value of this rifle is. Please indicate what info regarding this rifle you need to estimate a value...it will be helpful since I am not incline to give a estimation in this regards , I do not know much about the value of these rifles, except that the .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer I own is priceless...

Gert

Pre-WW2 Männlicher Schönauer (1903, 1905, 1908 & 1910 versions, 1924 were different beasts I think) came in three different versions: Stutzen (short barrel & full stock), Rifle and Detachable stock (also called Take-down); the later one is your rifle's version.

It is quite difficult to assess of rifle's value without having it in hand and also without knowing what the local market's conditions are. A detachable stock MS 1905 similar to yours is currently for sale on Guns international http://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-fo...un_id=100703623 ; this rifle looks to be in good condition, with all original features and its price is probably suited to the US market.

We can't very much assess of your rifle's condition from the photos, mainly for the unseen parts (bore, rotary magazine, etc.). I am not sure however that the stock is original (redish wood & lack of factory-type checkering) and we can't see whether the steel butt plate with trap door is still in place; we can however see that the take-down pin is missing on the stock's fore-end, and it is a spare part that is hard to find.

Another pricing factor may also be the lack or availability of 9x56 MS ammunition in SA; I don't think that commercial 9x56MS is available in-country (in fact I only know Dorfner in Austria that still manufactures it, but there may be others I am not aware of), so the buyer will also have to be a re-loader, or a collector that would not hunt with the rifle.

This rifle may also be sold internationally, but only if already registered by your national Central Firearms Registry (this may not be the case if a family-owned rifle); if not registered by the CFR, it will not be possible to get an export license.

Best regards.

Louis

Re: 1905 Mannlicher Schoenauer availability?

Update:
The rifle is standing for the past forty years in a safe, has never been fired during this time. The owner wants to sell. It is registered on the South African police data base, with a original licence . So it can be exported to countries abroad....
