Does anyone here use the Woodleigh 215's? I am planning to have a mould made to shoot cast lead bullets in my .303s and would like to make it as close to the old dimensions as possible. So if anyone has a Woodleigh and a caliper close at hand, would you be so kind as to measure it and give me an idea of where it starts tapering down from the .312 diameter? Thanks in advance. |

Hello LE, I measured up some Woodleigh 215 gr RNSP. Here are the details: Overall length - 1.225" Width at base - 0.312" & this continues for 0.400" until it starts to taper The jacket length is 1.190" & this is where the lead RN is exposed. Width of exposed lead tip at this point is 0.220" For comparison I measured an original Kynoch 215 gr RNSP (I was lucky enough to come across a good supply of these and according to the original source they date from pre-WW2s, there were also some 192 gr HP). They are more streamlined than the Woodleigh version. OL - 1.275" Width at base - 0.311" and this continues for 0.500" until starts to taper Jacket length to exposed lead nose - 1.235" and the lead RN tip is 0.145" at this point. Depending on the dimensions of your .303s bore you should check out the range of moulds at Cast Bullet Engineering. I use one of their oversize GC designs (210 gr with my alloy) in an old single shot with groove of .315". Hope this helps with your quest. Good Luck! Spud |

Hi LE, I use a mold from Accurate Molds for my .303 British Ruger #1. It is the 31-220BG It casts great bullets right at 220 grains when using wheel weights with 2% tin added to the mix. They can be contacted at the following website: http://www.accuratemolds.com/index.php All molds are custom made to the purchasers request, price is vey reasonable and lead time has always been quicker than promised. I own several and will continue to use them for all my mold needs. Good luck, |

Matt- I brought up that address and what a beautiful display of BP oriented grease grooves. Square and wide are typically for black powder loads. That's interesting, brought it up again for another look and it was a different home page. LOL Here's a nice design for my new plinker. Cool site. http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=51-350C-D.png |
