Bolt Alteration?
|
|
It's raining and I'm bored so I got to thinking - has anyone out there altered a bolt on a Lee by moving it to an in front of the rear ring position? Kind of M-S style, maybe even change it to a butter knife style, might be an interesting project. I've got some extra bolts so if things go bad I'm not out much. Any comments appreciated. --- John

The bolt handle in the middle of bolt wouldn´t be the ideal option with cock-on-closing rifle, not even with cock-on-open. When the handle is rear, the bolt always moving softer and faster if properly fitted.

Might be an interesting project, but I don't think I'd like the reach, John. It seems perfect where it is.

I think it would cancel out the blazing speed reloads you can get from a Lee action, due to the rearward position of the bolt, and make it into a less-well-machined Mannlicher, to no real advantage.
But it would LOOK interesting
You could call it an Afghani Mannlicher, and really make people scratch their heads
