Lee Enfield .303 N0 1

Hi guys
I dunno much about a Lee Speed, but it seems this post will not be out of place here!

Here is a hog taken with my Lee Enfield no 1 which has been roughly sporterised!

Load was a Highland Axe load using 180 grain sierra Pro Hunter bullets!

Range was about forty yards, and the hog was shot breaking out of a sugar cane field!

Despite what some say you have to hand it to the 303 and other so called arcane rounds (9.3, 30-06, 30-30 etc etc)been delivering the goods for many many years worlwide, and still doing it.
Just ask Rodders warthog.

Will we say the same for the latest "you beaut" 300 Weatherwinmington shortfirecracker magnum dinosaur walloper(also available in a heavey barreled tactical varmint model)....some how I doubt it.

The 303 has been used for hunting since the late 1800s ,and will still be taking game long after I have been turned to dust. (as long as the politicians allow it to go on )

Re: Lee Enfield .303 N0 1

I'll add the .300 Savage, .30-40 and .35 Remington and 6.5x55 to the pile of meat-makers there.

All have that sweet little something called "shootability", especially if the "9.3" cited is the x57 version.

At any rate, all of them can be learned very quickly by young and old, and real life field shooting skill acquired. I'm watching more and more fellows shoot the Ultramag-type rounds and I am not impressed.

Great ROUNDS, but not mated to the average human being very well.

A curious commonality of the rounds cited is that they were developed hard on the heels of the "perfection" of cartridge Black Powder rounds, most of which, for man- or game killing kicked like a mule with a serviceberry branch shoved up its arse.

So the military engineer types spun out cartridges with similar recoil levels???

Not on your life.

They gave us some of the easiest-shooting big-game-compatible rounds ever made and the .303 is right there among them.

Re: Lee Enfield .303 N0 1

What always amuzes me is how the .303 gets snubbed as being archaic, and ballistically inferior to other calibres in its range (usually the .308win and the 30-06). I wonder if the guys that shoot off their mouths about how inferior it is have ever looked at the ballistics tables comparing these three! I have never noticed the .308, or the 30-06 for that matter, killing any deader than my .303!
