I am jealous of all of you guys that have Pigs and Boars to hunt. What do you do with them after you shoot them? Do you eat them or give them away?

What is a Monteria? What do you mean by traditional? Is this a driven hunt?

I have a video of a Monteria in Spain.......a truck pulls up and lets out fifty (yep 50) dogs and they push all sorts of game throught to waiting hunters...red stags boars and plenty of them too

Re: Monterķa

Gryphon is right, usually that's the way to do it.

This time there was enough meat for everybody, 26 hunters and we took 20 boars, 15 red deers and 25 Fallows, everyone took the pieces they wanted and we sell the rest.

When I said "traditional" I meant the oldest way to hunt here in Spain. There're books talking about this way of hunting dated in the ten century, when only kings could hunt, and all the people who live in the villages around, must go to push the animals towards his king. They used to hunt for a couple of days and they took several bears, boars, wolves, linxs and deers. It's good to be a king.

Re: Monterķa

Man, one day I would be able to participate in one of these sorts of traditional big game driven hunts.

Sounds like fun with great friends.

Tell us what rifle and calibre you used and what did you shoot? The three boars in the photo, perhaps?

What video is that which you have? A amateur one or commercial?

Re: Monterķa

This time I was very lucky 'cos I took those three pigs and two of them were males with nice tusk. The one in the middle was a female.
In this kind of hunting I use to carry my Double Merkel 9.3x74R, may be too big for deers but perfect for those boars.

Nitrox if you ever return to Spain I'll be glad to hunt with you.

BTW. If anyone use EDONKEY, I can give you elinks of some spanish hunting videos.

Thanks. Maybe oneday I will get back there and this time do some hunting and it would be good to meet up . I wasn't fishing for an invitation.

These large scale big game driven hunts are just interesting to me as they are quite different to what I am used to. Also the historical cultural aspects.

Forgive my ignorance but what is EDONKEY?

Edonkey (or emule) is just a p2p net, to share files with anyone. Like Napster was, only a fileshare client. More info here

There is no literal translation for that word. "Monte" can be translate as Bush, so we can say something like "Into the bush". Sorry I did my best

Wow, those clips are amazing! Do they hunt an area once a year or more? What is the biggest bag you have seen?

Usually they do. Think you always shoot running animals so there're a lot of misses, in fact, use to escape more animals than they die. Hunting areas can be about 10.000 Hc. and should be a high density.

More than 100 boars and more than 50 deers. There was 80 hunters but I know there're biggest bags in ranches .

Re: Monterķa

What breeds of dog are being used? I think I recognise 1 as being the dogo de argentina, is the other breed the 'podenco'? By the way, are there instructions for what trophies may be shot or do you just let the law of averages take care of management?

You're right. Usually we use podencos, Dogos and any mix between them.

Talking about boars, you can shot any you want. Experience tells the hunter what to shot or what not
