Just back from a rut. Due to a very good harvest of fruits and beech, rut was short and shy - accordingly hunting was very hard, but excelent. In two weeks we got 17 stags. While we took some old stags, trophy quality was nothing to write home about. Still it was a great time to be had by all. I am adding some random pics that I took. |

Well done. That first one pictured, the 6 point - very nice indeed. In BC that would be called a Royal & the antler configuration is very similar to our Roosevelt Elk. |

Very impressive and good to see that you are out there hunting, not stuck indoors held captive by a communist government. I have to say that some of those trophies are still pretty bloody good. Well done. Matt. |

Quote: 93mouse, we all can read between the lines...........you are a proper bastard you know that! No seriously well done mate, beautiful pictures, they certainly tell a great story in themselves, even that old dog looks plain worn out! That last old stag, was he in the process of dropping his antlers when you got him? Waidmannsheil 93x64mm |

rglenz - it is a 30.06 150gr Federal Power Shok - stag was shot app 80 m away, quartering quite some - from behind - bullet entry on right thigh, bullet was found under the hide in the area of middle ribs on the left side. Finisher was needed to kill it. Would be dead in 2-3 hours but better be safe than sorry 93x64mm - old injury, completely missing, should be some story behind it - life time trophy for sure... |

93mouse Thanks for posting the photos and the comments on the hunting. Always enjoy your updates, posts and photos. When done on the rut. Only 17 stags , not bad! How many hunters? One? Ha ha. No I assume a decent number of hunters. When you say "we" is it a club or syndicate? I like this photo with the dog in the background. Well posed and set out photo. The tree is good as well. And all the other photos as well. |

John by "we" I mean a group of 4 deputies gathered around the PH that runs the area of 4000 Ha. Stags were shot by visiting clients that we were guiding - 4 regular clients with their friends. |
||||||||
|
|
|||||||
4 clients shot 17 stages? Here in B.C., a client gets one moose or caribou or elk or bear or deer or wolf or mountain lion tag. No hunter gets to shoot more than one of each species and only if they previously bought a tag for that species. No guarantees on any big game. Here, you are guided on a hunt, not a game shoot. Perhaps I have the wrong impression on guided hunts in Slovenia. |

Daryl this area is sold at flat rate - our clients are long time returning ones that are leasing the area/quota for years in advance for a fixed price regardless the trophy size and the outcome. The package contains 24 stags (15 5 years or older, and 9 2-4 years old) and 1 keiler (grown up male boar) + 2 weekends of driven hunting + exclusive usage of wooden house built for Tito somewhere after WWII. Each year they come with their friends that are invited by them - all in all in 2 weeks app 20 hunters are guided. I don't know what the price is tho. Other areas are sold out per hunter (hunting days) and trophy is payed upon CIC points - should be the same in our area but as long as there is interest it will be sold as is. |

Interesting, thanks for the explanation. |

Just a follow up. Due to further Covid restrictions all the driven hunts are canceled, meaning no oraganised driven hunts for clients, therefore we are obliged to continue with culling of non-trophy animals - mainly red deer (hinds and calves) and wild boars. While doing so found this one - died from the wounds he got in rut time by other stag: On one occasion I saw a strange behaving calf - hind was licking it constantly around its back and when I got a better look I saw that something is amiss on its hind left leg so I shot it. When I came closer there was a rather fresh wound made by wolf - calf managed to somehow escape it. Close up Oh, and I got lucky with these 2 - shot the first one from a mixed group of 20. At the bang two others were so surprised that they jumped out into open and when noticing their mistake, began to run toward the wood. Just before entering the bush the front one made a slight turn to the left- showing me some flank... All in all, a group of 5 got 22 red deer and 2 piglets in 3 days. |

No problem gentlemen - pleasure is all mine - to fix the tone of the previous post I am adding a couple of scenes from our October woods that are just splendid these days: |

Nice foliage - ours are mostly white ground with no leaves on the deciduous trees. |

Daryl we are suppose to get some snow later next week - can not wait! In the meantime - looks like the clients are not going to come this year at all, so we continue to cull deer. With calves numbers almost achieved, it is time to pick out the old hinds... |

A guy's got to do what a guy's got to do. We've lots of snow now. Was just out at the range, got stuck, got out with help from my bro. My winter tires are getting a little sad. This is the 6th season for them. Their last winter. The snow was almost knee deep. |
