Waidmannsheil/Weidmannsheil
|
|
Which is the correct spelling: Waidmannsheil or Weidmannsheil? I see both versions used and wonder if the spelling has regional variations?

Waidmannsheil, to which the correct response is Waidmannsdank!

Both spellings are correct, despite heated debates among German hunters. "Weidmannsheil" is more often used in southern and eastern Germany,"Waidmannsheil" in the north and by more traditional minded hunters.

I assumed, of course, that Carpetsahib is one of the "more traditional minded hunters".

While I am a "traditional minded hunter", I am more aligned with Austria and South Tirol than with Germany proper. Perhaps I need to inquire what is the traditional greeting in Rhaeto-Romanesch and go from there.
