Successful hunt in Germany!

This weekend I was hunting in Germany. We were 28 rifles and shot 52 games in 2,5 h. The area was 175 ha, an island of forest with agricultural land around it. We were sitting in stands and there were a lot of dogs of all kinds. We shot 21 wild boars, 20 roe deer, 10 fallow deer and 1 fox. A fantastic hunt. I was there hunting last year with these friends and we shot even though more than 50 games.

Weidmannsheil, Sville und sicher ausgezeichnet!!!

Thanks very much for posting.

I love these Euro-style hunts.

Great stuff.

So different from us in culture, methods, terrain and game. Very interesting and I can smell the venison right now.

My wife's of old Ostpreußische stock and these pics make me think of one of her roladen recipes, or pork chops and kartoffel kliesels or...

Of course you did, it wouldn't be hunting in Germany if you didn't celebrate this way. Brings back nice memories for me.

Re: Successful hunt in Germany!

Sville;

Can you give us an idea of some of the guns and calibers used by the hunters?

I think it was cold enough so that there was no hurry in processing all that meat.
Well done.

Re: Successful hunt in Germany!

Mausers, Blasers, Sauer etc, I think I was the only one with a double rifle. Calibers 9,3x62, 8x57, on my DR 9,3x74R. Its often many games at the same time and you have may bullets in the air. Probably a rifle is better than a double rifle, but its more fun with a DR. But I managed alright. It can be a problem that hunters are shooting at to many games at the same time, then its better they don´t have that many bullets in their rifle. The search afterwards is very important and difficult. Many hunters are inexperienced and get very excited of the great amount of animals and dont know on how many games and were they have been shooting.

Yes, it was -1 C, so the meat managed alright. Mostly the problem is that games have been shot in bad places. Stomach, back etc . Especially roe deers that runs fast and jump up and down. There were though some work for my friends the day after the hunt.
