Winter hunt in Sweden

When its cold and snow in Sweden, there is a tradition of hunting black grouse. They are sitting in the tops of a birch or a pine. This christmas we got -25C and snow. I was out walking around and shot one black grouse and two hares. Blaser R93 .308, Norma FMJ.

Sville,

Where do you shoot a Black Grouse with a rifle? ie where on the body?

Does it damage the meat much?

-25 C, cold!

NitroX, on this sort of hunting its almost everytime long distance shooting from 100 meters up to more than 200 meters. You aim at body and with FMJ its no problem with the meat. This I shot in the head at a distance of 120 meters, but I aimed at body:). With silencer your rifle groups are more accurate, I use silencer for both .308 and 9,3x62. Good for recoil also. It was cold, but It was a nice day and I were wearing good clothes.

A good stoll! Way to go.

I don't hunt in -25 any more - not young enough for that - enjoy it while you are young Sville.

In the past, we used my brothers 20" plains Teepee for lodging on our hunts - maybe times it dropped to -40, yet we were comfortable with good bags and a good birch & maple fire inside. The maple was from muzzleloading rifle stock trimmings.
