Can you own a .455 Webley Revolver in Australia?

Can you own a .455 Webley revolver in Australia?

I know you can, and some of our members do. But how does it work, and in which states, what works?

We have restrictions for firearms of more than .357/38/9mm calibre.

I know two possible ways to own one:

1. Collectors licence. In SA only would allow it to be shot ONCE per year. Ammo could not be owned permanently by the collector in that cartridge. Only for the once per year shoot. I imagine some sort of "theme" for a collection would also be required.

2. Handguns greater than 9mm/.357/.38 can be licensed for target shoots for metal silhouette target shoots. The justification accepted is the heavier bullet is needed to topple the metal targets.

Please discuss how you "justify" your Webley.

I would very much like one oneday. As a fun historical handgun.

Another question, is ammo available, projectiles etc? I see Bruce Bertram does make .455 Webley brass.

I hope so. The battery of 9 comes with a pair of 357 Webley revolvers courtesy of Stewart Anderson Wheeler.

Re: Can you own a .455 Webley Revolver in Australia?

Thanks guys. But an essential part of the question was on what basis do you own the Webley revolvers if the calibre is in .455 ie greater than 9mm/.357?

- Collector?
- Club Target Shooting?
- Which discipline?

Thanks.

You Diggers can't be trusted with something so dangerous as a .455 revolver. If our shitass politicians had their way we wouldn't be trusted either.
