.38 M&P Model 1902 U.S. Navy No. 25188
I'd like to share with you a rare and historic revolver.
On August 8, 1902 the U.S. Navy ordered one thousand Smith & Wesson .38 Military and Police revolvers.
Smith & Wesson assigned a serial number block of 25001 - 26000 to this order. The Navy required a separate serial
number for its purposes, which ran from 1001 to 2000.
These revolvers were chambered for the .38 Long Colt cartridge, the current U.S. service handgun cartridge at the time. They are marked "S&W .38 Mil."
All had 6" barrels.
Here are images of my Model 1902 Navy .38 M&P. It's a survivor from way back. Roy Jinks, the S&W Historian, says it shipped in October 1902.
Next come some detailed images of its internals, etc.
Of course, the trigger rebound system of a 1902 is quite different from a 1905:
You don't see these revolvers very often, so I thought it might be a nice one to share here. He's got a bit of a craggy face, but mechanically he's perfect. I have shot this revolver using .38 Spl. brass cut to proper length. It's a great shooter and gives a good feeling just thinking of who may have fired it over a century ago.

That is a nice one. And not too common at all as you say.
I used to have a collection of M&P's, mostly LE service weapons. There is simply nothing at all in the shooting world to compare...in my opinion...with the sheer fun of shooting an M&P. Glass break triggers, light recoil. A cylinder that when opened and spun, must be observed with the eye to even tell it is spinning!
Had many enjoyable conversations with a fellow named Vito who worked in the S&W repair section.
gone, now, what an encyclopedia of knowledge on these and other Smith wheelguns.

Really nice piece of history..congrats..
Apparently this was the predecessor to the 1909 45 Colt ??

Quite find Cpt., well done. Good write up. Looking at the unwashed interior of that revolver makes me think I should take the plate off my Colt Police Positive just to check it for junk.
They are fun shooting guns with smooth DA and single action pulls breaking like glass.
