Thanks DarylS. Interesting article. The rifle is a single trigger which would be considered unusal.

Not so unusual at the time this .577 dr was made. The 1912 Westley Richards catalog advertised their “Best Quality Double Hammerless Ejector Rifle, .577 bore, detachable locks, one or two triggers, new hinged fore-sight protector, in leather-covered oak case complete …. 85 Guineas”. The then famous elephant hunter James Sutherland, 1872-1932, used such a single trigger, droplock WR rifle, see:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_H._Sutherland
Sutherland is quoted in that WR catalog: “Two hundred and twenty-three male elephants have fallen to your .577 Double Hammerless Rifle (March 8th.1912)”

That's a LOT of ivory, back then.

What kuduae said.
If all double rifle makers taken as an aggregate, then yes, single trigger would be much less common. However Westley Richards themselves were known for their successful single trigger doubles, both guns and rifles.

My understanding is that Sutherland had a pair of such rifles.

That's just greedy!

.577 NE, a stopper double rifle extraordinaire. I'd be yanking on the rear of the trigger guard in an elephant charge wanting to fire the second barrel ....... !

I'd love a .577 NE double rifle to add to my .450 No. 2 NE.
