John Rigby 2 of 25 - Rising Bite sidelock ejectors .500 NE

The John Rigby & Co released a number of a series of photos and some commentary on recent rifles they have made.

Some excellent rifles, mauser and rising bites. Some heavily embellished, some very vintage, a mixture. I hope the gentlemen of NE enjoy these over the next few weeks.

Rigby 2 of 25 - Rigby Rising Bite sidelock ejector in .500 Nitro Express

Gun 2 of 25 is a stunning .500 nitro express Rising Bite side lock ejector. The rifle incorporates a traditional Rigby quarter rib and front ramp sight, grade eight deluxe stock and leather covered pad. The Rigby scroll engraving was completed by Andy Miles. The game scenes of lion, elephant and rhino are by Rigby's in-house engraver Geoffrey Lignon. The entire rifle was designed, assembled, stocked and finished in house by the team of craftsman at the Rigby workshop, London. We incorporated an individually numbered enamel oval on the grip cap created by hand by a living descendent of John Rigby, founder of the company in 1775. Melissa Rigby is the great, great, great granddaughter of John Rigby and it was an honour to include this on the rifle along with 19 others. #RIGBY #GUNMAKERS #FITFORPURPOSE

Truly awesome rifle, one of my hunters had a Rigby .500NE, I don't think it was a Rising Bite but looked similar, it was a fantastic handing rifle, I unfortunately only got to shoot some horses with it.

I must say here how ever for Rigby #2 of 25 it has a #3 on the grip cap ?

The 2 of 25 is merely an internet thing, showing 25 rifles as showcases. Nothing to do with a "run of 25" rifles. As far as I know.

Perhaps that is the Third Rigby for that owner?

Well along in the series of 25 there is a mention, this is the first rifle of Twenty !!! ordered by the purchaser. Or some comment like that???

You will have to wait to see.

The engraving on this rifle is what I like. Not excessive or over the top, well executed, not garish and well laid out. A very nice double.

That is a really spectacular elephant in the dust, IMO. Love it immensely.

Beautiful rifle as are the other Rigby's posted recently.
They all appear to show very high quality workmanship.

Regarding the '3' shown on the grip trap, it's possible that this is only the third SIDELOCK Rigby 500 NE double ever built!

Harald Wolf wrote in Hatari Times that only 2 Rigby sidelock 500 NE's were built during the 20th century.
The first was finished in 1908, and the second much later in 1993 while Paul Roberts was at the helm.

This one might be #3!
