Archiving here for posterity, the Elmer Keith Collection. A variety of double rifles, shotguns, bolt actions and handguns. Some may be duplicated in other forums archives or forums, but the whole collection of photos will also be stored on this thread. *** One of the most famous of all double rifles in my opinion by one of the greatest hunters of all time, for the service he did to mankind in hunting down many maneaters in India during the 20th Century. The best quality boxlock by W.J. Jeffery & Co. .450/.400 Tiger Rifle owned by Colonel James Corbett and used to slay a number of maneater tigers. Open images for full size images. Gentlemen, Which tigers (and leopards?) did Corbett use this rifle to slay? Would you care to comment? |

Great stuff, and Keith is great reading. His early American Rifleman pieces are especially good. I'm always struck by the quality of descriptions and photography of the good American auction houses v. the UK ones. With the UK houses, you're lucky to get a photo of 25% of one side of the rifle with a description that tells you very little about condition, particularly of the bore - all in exchange for 25% v 17% commissions. The American houses are so thorough in their descriptions that any question you might have after reading them would have to be very obscure indeed....and you'll get a prompt answer even when you ask those questions. |

I saw and handled the .450/400 at the Las Vegas show, a very iconic rifle I would be inclined to agree with the descriptions and photos of the U.S. (I have only seen the James Julia) and the UK auction houses The .465 double owned by Denys Finch Hatton sold here a couple of years ago was not given the exposure it warranted TH44 |

TH44 any idea what that .465 sold for? |

55,000 GBP before commission. I think the Corbett rifle will bring at least double that. |

I would expect so too. I am not one to place much value on provenance but we are talking Corbett. |

This auction really will be extraordinary. I would attend personally but for the fact that my daughter is getting married the afternoon of March 14, 2014. What a rotten time to have a wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are some really good items (non-Elmer Keith) in the second day listing also. Curl |

The Jim Corbett double rifle brought $230,000 plus the bump! That would be about $276,000, depending on exactly how the bidder bid and paid. |

Link to sale prices here: https://www.proxibid.com/asp/Catalog.asp?aid=92818 Add 20% buyers commission. Some lovely rifles there, the doubles and some singles. Plus some of his revolvers! Some of the firearms I have seen in his books and magazine articles. |

5500 $ for the Westley 12 bore droplock doesn´t look bad, something wrong with it I guess ? best |

A couple of the Holland doubles went for the low estimate or below - a very nice .500/450 went for $50K. Always some surprises at these auctions! |

I bid on three colts and the 400 Whelen. No Joy. |

Some of his colts are incredibly unique - made up from frames, barrels, hammers, sights from different guns, engraving, holsters, grips. It makes me want to custom a Colt SAA. |
