N.Guyot 9.3x74R

Don't know much about this maker and bought the rifle purely on what my eyes told me.
Rifle has had a few unkind things done to it but over time I'm fixing these up. When I got it the front trigger had been converted to a single set arrangement ( second pic ) and although this did work, firing the left barrel would have been a nasty business for the digit involved due to lack of room. I believe the original front trigger was articulated ( blade almost twice as thick as left one ) but for the moment I've just fitted a new shoe to the existing blade.
Also the right lock is missing its intercepting sear and spring and these will be made in due time. It does have a little bit of pitting here and there but most of what shows is staining.
There are no proof marks other then the ones shown on the barrels just in front of the flats.
Barrels are chopper lump, 25 5/8" long with excellent bores , pull is 14 3/4 " and it weights 3.8kg bare and 4.6 kg with its petit scope
Balance without scope is perfect and its a real beauty to fire. Barrels are engraved with; " N.GUYOT ARQer A PARIS (right) 12 RUE DE PONTHIEU (left)Have only fired 6 shots with it so far with 2 at a hill just to see what it was like, 2 at a beer carton to check point of aim and the next 2 were a right and left on 2 good boars. To say I was pleased is a understatment.
Any info on Mr. Guyot would be much appreciated.

Nice rifle chambered for my favorite cartridge. Really like the straight grip. It's also nice to read that you have shot two boar with it already. Take any hunting pictures ... hint hint?

A set trigger will not work with an intercepting sear. The short kick a set trigger applies to release the primary sear is insufficient to release the secondary one. Alas, the purpose of the secondary sear is intercepting the hammer to keep the gun from firing if the primary sear is accidentially released by a short blow.

Thanks all for your comments and yes I was lucky getting this one. It came from an auction site in Europe and I had very little to go on when I deciced to bid on it. From the information provided by the seller and the knowledge I already had on Guyot, I knew it was a high grade firearm but it had problems. I set my limit in regard to bidding and hoped like hell that its short comings and not so common maker would keep the price down.
Don't know if my train of thought was right but I got it and that was all I cared about. Of course then the waiting began and after a few months it arrived down under. When the moment of truth arrived, I really hoped my gamble had paid off. I knew of its problems, but were they only as bad as the seller had said or had it been talked up. Lucky for me his discription was off; it was much better and I smiled. Actually I smiled a lot !
Maybe tomorrow I'll take the French Lady for a pleasent stroll along the grassy banks of a running stream --------- and shoot the shit out of some more pigs.

It has been awhile since I first posted the Guyot double rifle. Since them I've made the intercepting sear and spring that were missing, fitted new front & rear sights that are slightly higher and given the stock a little tidy up. Have also been using it a lot and it is without doubt the best handling double I've ever used.
The load I use is Norma brass, CCI 200 Lge rifle primers, 64 grs. Ar 2209 powder and a 230 gr. bullet at approx. 2400 fps. This is kind on the rifle and me and does the job without fuss on pigs. It regulates well and I started using this bullet for the sole reason I had about 1300 of these bullets on hand and knew I'd be using quite a few of them. They are made by Svenska Metallverken of Sweden and are called' banana peel' soft points. I have no idea where to get more when these run out but will cross that bridge when I get there. Also thought a set of snap caps might be the go.

magnificent looking rifle.I hope you give this a really good "scrubb in ultrasocnic bath" and have it carefully restored. Bananapeel soft bullets are good for driven hunts where ricochets are a safety risk. think Norma Alaska or plastic tip would be great bullets for your purpose.
