Let my son shoot the .470 NE double today

I posted this on AR but figured some of you who don't frequent that site might like to see these pics...

My 13-year-old son, Chad, asked me to let him shoot the new double rifle in .470 N.E. I had him watch me first to see if he was okay with it and he was. I loaded up a couple snap caps and he gave 'em a shot. Then I gave him one in the right barrel with a snap cap in the left...'cause doubling might end up with him dropping the rifle...oh yeah, and it might hurt.

He shot standing up so he could recoil with the gun. He fired the rifle and looked over his shoulder at me with a "what was that" look on his face. After he handed me the rifle he found he had a bloody nose. Good thing there was plenty of snow.

Good news is he shot quite well for off-hand at 25yds (bulls-eye)...and that target is now hanging on the wall in his room.

Dad did okay too, off-hand at 25 yds, with a right and left within an inch of each other and in the bulls-eye.

Matt:
Too much stuff in each of your URLs. Delete everything after ".jpg" in each case, and it should work.

The URL for the first pic should be
"http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h282/Badger_Matt/P1131230.jpg"
Dunno where the "?t=1172349039" came from!

Hope this helps.

Good shooting, BTW, both of you! The blood nose is usually a result of too short a stock, so the thumb of the trigger-hand hits the nose on recoil. Looks like he might need his own custom-stocked .470!

When's his birthday?

Shooting the 470 is no small task for a 13 year old. Chad I am proud of you and welcome to being a big bore shooter. My son and I used to shoot all the time. It was one of our favorite pastimes. Good luck.

What a lucky boy! And what a fine father! Congratulations to both of you on this day out shooting together.

Matt, you didn;t attach a picture of yourself to this thread. I can imagine how widely you were smiling when this happened.

Good hunting, gentlemen!

Badger

That will cost you big time now, he is hooked, could you not hhave started him on something cheaper like a .223?

Well done though, I see he was bloodied too, he has now joined the ranks of proper shooters
