Re: Swarovski's new Z6 scope line

Someone told me to expect prices just a bit under $2K for the non-illuminated models.

Doesn't sound like they'll sell a hell of a lot of them for that kind of price. I'd be closer to understanding $2ooo if it were illuminated...

Sometimes products are directed at other markets - ie the high end where prestige and price are not an issue - and they will still sell plenty of them.

It's a bit like Holland & Holland - to us, the price of a new gun is very high, but to some people they walk in and buy pairs of them at a time.

500Nitro,

I definately see your point, but I would think that it would be wise for Swarovski to price itself at least resonably near Zeiss, S&B, and Kahles. Which it turns out they did.

I see that the price for a Z6i 1-6X 24mm with an illuminated reticle is actually available for US$1889.

I also see that this magnification is available with 2 different eye reliefs. One is the regualar 9,5cm, while the "EE" variant has 12cm of eye relief!

The illuminated ones look quite unconventional, but IMO function matters more than fashion. And the non-illuminated ones look just like normal.

Look, I agree in some ways but from what I see Swarovski seem to put themselves above the others - whether in reality or functionality / performance, Value for money is open to debate.

It's very crowded down the bottom of the market and I think they work on the presumption that if you deal with the bottom end of the market then all you do is feed bottom feeders.

Plenty of good business at the high end of the market, it's just if you don't deal / look at that end much you tend not to realise how it is.

Just my HO !

Re: Swarovski's new Z6 scope line

5oo Nitro,
as I see it this scope provides three new very useful features:
- a magnification range from 1-6 X, which is all you probably would need for a double rifle
- a very large field of view
- up to 4,7 " of eye relief (the EE model), makes it safe also with heavy calibres

In this case I think Swarovski has made some genuine improvements.
Pricing is a different discussion, but I don't think you can compare the "prestige effect" of a $1500 scope with that of a $150.000 H&H rifle.
