Rigby SxS DR in.....7x57R? Yup....check it out.

Very cool:

How many of those do you think they made. If it's original, is has to be close to one of a kind - especially with a rising bite.

Very nice indeed and a nice light calibre.

Would like to kno what the reserve is and whether these
types of guns sell on the gunbroker often.

Anyone know ?

The caliber could be original, but I'd need some convincing. The serial number and a photo of the flats would be interesting.

Yep, I'd like to know the serial number.

Mine is 17xxx, around 1905.

Not sure of the calibre and whether it was made this way.
I need to do some research.

Why do you question the calibre ?

The photos are too small to have a decent look at it.

The reserve is now met at $9,995.00.
Seller has updated his info and stated that he can e-mail detailed pictures. Is anyone here a member of Gunbroker.com and can get the pix?

Are you saying that the Reserve is $10,000 ?

The action alone is worth close to that, regardless of the barrel condition.

I would like to see bigger pictures to see if it has been refinished / re CCH.

I asked for photos, serial and a barrel flat photo.
It never even got acknowledged.
Must be happy with the way it is going and doesn't want to put out any effort.

Maybe he's away.

I see it's up to $14+ k now.

I wonder whether it is a Paul Roberts Rigby rebore or rechamber ?

Must do some research over the weekend to see what guns were chambered in.

I just got the pictures of the water table and the caliber, etc. It looks right and then I saw a picture of an engraving under the barrels and it says Bohler Spezial G-55. I am assuming that is German and defines the steel made to construct the barrels. Is Rigby a German brand?

Re: Rigby SxS DR in.....7x57R? Yup....check it out

I was right. The serial number is from about 1913, one of the last of the rising bites. Proof marks are 1954 rule (which went into effect 2/1/55) on Bohler steel barrels which are certainly not original. It's a rebarrel. My hunch is that this was originally a .303. Assuming a good quality rebarrel, and everything else in good shape, it's worth the current price. It is not represented accurately though.

Check'em out:

And where's the ejector stop screw, or whatever that screw that goes into the lump is called?

I agree, 303 rebarelled sounds like a good option.
The serial number is 600 or so away from mine.

One thing - doesn't it look like a Selective ejector mechanism ?

It certainly looks like an ejector but it is not mentioned as such
in the decsription but the Extractors are split.

Any comment ?

I hate misrepresented / wrongly decribed guns
but I still think it is worth $15k.

Re: Rigby SxS DR in.....7x57R? Yup....check it out

I think it's an ejector gun. But without seeing more of the action or forend, I couldn't be sure.

It is missing the screw that holds the extractors in (hole in the front lump). Without that screw, both of the arms will fall right out.

From what I saw, I would say the wood has been refinished and the hardware has been reblued. If the gun was rebbled 50 years ago, it may have been totally redone back then. I think the reblue on the hardware is more current.

Also, in one of the pics, the toplever is right of center. On a gun like this, that lever should be centered (unless it was just put back on the face).

Who knows what else is up with it. Without an inspection/refund period, I think there's just too much risk in it.

Re the Screw, some Rigby's had a slective Ejector / Extractor mechanism
actioned by a screw but I can't remember where the screw is located.
I do agree that the Ejector would fall out without the screw as shown in the Picture.

I don't mind a reblue / refinish as long as it has been done well.

Toplever Right of Centre - could be tighten - if it has been rebarreled
it would need to have been done but also, the RB RTB mechanism
can "catch" abit.

I would prefer an inspection.

Re: Rigby SxS DR in.....7x57R? Yup....check it out

I would sure agree with you. I would sure think it was .303 as Rigby made quite a few of those.
If well done its still good and in a good caliber.
It's about where I think it is worth, so I quit bidding.
You all take over and bid it to where ever you think is right!!!!
The rifle could have had a more accurate description to begin with. Definately missing a screw.
Should be a nice using rifle for medium game.

I contacted the seller early in the bidding....he was NOT interested in any type of inspection period....so I didn't bid.

Arizona

I think he knows what we know and
therefore is cautious what he says.

The action and gun is probably still worth it
for someone.

That's not a bad bid.

I see that the auction has finished so
he got his $18k for it.

I think the alarm bells should have been ringing loud and long on this one regarding the possible non-originality of the barrels and chambering.
7x57 R is not really the way the poms would describe that cartridge IMO.
I wonder how many British hunting rounds were ever described as "rimmed" as most were called "flanged".
If the barrels and chambering were original Rigby I would have expected something like .275 Rigby Flanged" or similar.

Would be a nice little double though.
