Re: Cal Pappas

That is a real shame. He was a wealth of knowledge and true gun enthusist.

When I went tp Alaska in 2020, I intended to visit Cal but our trip was cut short by the Covid outbreak. I was hoping that when I traveled to Alaska again in the future that I would be able to stop by and see Cal.

Re: Cal Pappas

Terrible news, I stayed with him for an Alaska DR shoot a few years ago

He looked after this Englishman very well and would take nothing in return

I will remember shooting his Double 4 bore rifle and .600 NE in his "garden" for ever (fortunately I have videos) and riding his quad bike

As already said, a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm

Truly Rest in Peace Cal

Re: Cal Pappas

Damn. Thought Cal would be with us forever.
BGR World Titles in Darwin postponed twice because of covid, so missed seeing him again. Up next year hopefully, he will be there in spirit at least.

RIP mate.

Truly a sad day.
Cal was a great guy and always enjoyable to talk to.
Regrettably I never met him in person.

I spoke with him at the gun show earlier this month. He looked well. Just never know.

Re: Cal Pappas

I think I saw he was taking a bunch of people on safari to Africa. Maybe coming up? Or a video on YouTube of it? I didn't watch it. Yet.

RIP to our occasional NE member. An author and big bore enthusiast.

Cal was a very personable guy. I never met him in person, but we spoke by phone on several occasions. He will be missed in the gun community.

Re: Cal Pappas

Cal was a good friend and a true gentleman, generous with his time, experience, rifles and ammo, his home, and his enthusiasm for hunting and shooting. Will Rogers said "I never met a man I didn't like" Cal definitely treated everyone as a good friend he just hadn't met yet. He constantly offered to pick people up at the airport and take them to the range and back if they had a long layover passing through, the use of one of his spare rooms, his loading room etc. Numerous times I'd stop by his house on a weekend to find him inside reading a book while others were shooting DRs in his front yard range then running in to his well equipped reloading room to make a minor adjustment, etc.

I first met him many years ago in a gun store when I was picking up a just purchased 8-bore DR. Needless to say, we hit it off and were shooting together a few days later and making hunting plans. Though he was a wealth of knowledge that he was always willing to share, he was always open to learning and we'd often discuss ideas and possible solutions to minor issues and experimenting, most recently with powder coating ideas, how to get better radar chrono readings on rounds balls, etc. He was a great ambassador for the hunting and shooting sports and will be sorely missed.

Cal will be missed, RIP my friend.
I never got to meet Cal in person, but kept in touch by email or phone now and then. Always interesting and quite the personality.
I am glad to have his books, he will live on thru them…...

Sad to see him go and far too young. A font of knowledge on fine guns.
