well here I am again sticking my toe in the double rifle water, since I will be returning to alaska my caliber choices might be 45/70 30/06 /8 x57 mauser some of the brands I have come up with so far are 1 siace 2 rizzini 3 chapuis and on annother page h&h dominion 8x57 sabattis due to a lot of issues are not considered Iv'e seen the baikal but it looks to light for the caliber I shoot a lot of 45/70 out of my guide gun so am used to the medium mild jolt from 405 gr cast that I shoot in it, anyone here want to chime in? and give me their thoughts or ideas? There was a gentleman here that had a 500ne merkel for sale but I lost track of my mails with him so do not know if it is still availible thanks smitty |

Can't blame you for the reluctance to consider a Sabatti, however I have had zero issues with my "post Cabela's" 9.3x74 Classic. It is a fine "no worries" roughing it double. (.500 Merkel? Not exactly a "small bore") If you have the spare cash go for the H&H, you will never regret it. -Mike |
