Junior Army & Navy info? - Just got a 577 bpe Double Rifle

Hello All,

Anyone have any info about the Junior Army & Navy? I just bought a 577 bpe Double Rifle by them.

The top rib is marked; "Junior Army & Navy S. Ltd York House London". Both lock plates are marked; "J A & N S Ltd.

Looking for some production records and / or manufacturing dates and / or any Company History.

So that's a "Junior". I wonder what it will be when it grows up? A .577 Nitro maybe?

She might be a plain Jane compared to the other doubles you have mate - but those bores are massive & will speak with a lot of authority!
Very nice pick up Buckstix!

Hello 93x64mm

Thanks for the reply.

Here are some additional pictures. I've never seen "slots" like this cut into the action's water-table. Are they perhaps to remove weight? Is this any clue to a maker? Hammers are "re-bounding". The water-table also has the "Crown/V" proof but no other marks or serial number. In fact, there is no serial number found anywhere. Only the numbers 4824 and 7352 are on the bottom rib.

comment are welcome.

I have seen this action flat detail before.

Check out this old Horsley 12 Bore

Also here you'll see a thread on a Lang pinfire rifle with somewhat similar detail.

I also have a double with this style of cuts on the action flats.
Look here for a discussion on that Horsley and some images of my gun which features this detail.

Helmut,

My Friend Bob Maze spent a month in London trying to dig up new info on the Jr A&N (also known as York House), but was unsuccessful. Its a shame since so much is known about the Army & Navy CSl. I, as others, have copies of the sales records and voluminous catalog of the latter, but we have found virtually no record of the former.
