Anyone have any info on duplex loads for the 577-500 #2? Can't stuff anymore black in and it's not quite regulating yet. |

Sorry no Duplex loads, but a couple of things, one you may need to find a more potent Black Powder as some of modern manufacture are not up to the old loads & the other is Nitro for Black as I used in my .577BPE when I had it, couldn't get enough of the modern stuff in the case ! What you working on ? |

The best duplex loads I used, had 10gr. IMR3031 in the bottom, with the case full of black over it. In that big case, I would load 15gr. IMR3031 and start there, or start with the 10gr. duplex. |

Casper50, Can you please tell us what the load data is for the load you are presently using? Any idea on velocity of the load? DC |

I am limited to Goex up here in Alaska. Not many import bp. I have to drive 300 miles just to get that. Load data is 128 grains of 2f and a 515 gn bullet. I began with the 340gn and smokeless but could not get it closer to regulating than 4" group at 50yds. First 2 shots were 2" but I think it was an aiming error on my part as I could not duplicate that. I don't have a chono. Trying to get my Westley Richards double regulated. I would love to take a moose with it this year. I'd post another photo but my photo host has died. |

Forgot to add that I have Wright's book and will reread it. |

Do you have the latest Wright book. That is the one with tested loads. I could not gwt my Single shooter 557/500 BPE (you know the one) to shoot a group with black powder. Ended up using Marrakai's NfB load. That shot to sights. Didn't shoot the moose with it but could have. |

I have both editions. What's Marrakai's NfB load? |

I've never had much luck getting a 450 BPE and a 500 BPE to regulate with blackpowder, tried a lot of loads. As soon as I changed over to a NFB load, they both regulated perfectly. I just had a look through Graeme's books, I can't find data for a 577/500. Lots of other cartridges, but not that one, unless I'm looking at the wrong pages? If you wanted to go duplex, I'd try 15 grains of H4198, then about 90-95 grains of FFg. Don't put much compression on a duplex load, just enough to stop the powders mixing about. You might need to increase the BP a little more to take up the space. DC |

Thanks DC. I couldn't find anything in either the 2nd or 3rd editions that I have on the 577-500 #2. |

Mike, Here is a thread on this subject including Marrakai's load. Tony has written about this load a number of times. 577/500 No. 2 BPE Nfb-help needed Scroll down to the 5th post in that thread and you will see Tony's response and load. |

I was a contributor to that thread also and continue to use that same load, modified to 54 gr of IMR 4198 due to lot changes over the years. I might add that using that 515 gr bullet is setting yourself up for failure. Remember the original loads used 340-440 gr bullets. Best. |

I started with a 340 it was never going to regulate. So I went heavier and it was better than the 340 right off the bat. Thanks DD. |

Casper, I'm on the road right now but think I've got at least a pound each of Goex FFFg and Goex Cartridge and know I've got a few pounds of swiss FFFg that you're welcome to next time you're in Anchorage if you want to keep trying black instead of duplex loads. I had to buy 25lb of the swiss in order to get it to AK so I've got plenty left over!!! Bob |

I'm interested. Thanks Bob. I have to come up sometime before new year to pick up a 327 and powerglide transmission to put in my daughter's 53 GMC. |
