My newly acquired Merkel 450-400 3"

Hi all,
Haven't posted for a while but excited to show my Merkel 140AE purchased over a period of a year, genourisly allowed by the dealer in Oakley. Paid AU$6900 after receiving a call from the dealer that the owner reduced price.

Can't think of a better cartridge for a double making it versatile for feral Hoggs etc, no intention of taking it to Africa as I can't justify spending that type of cash on any of the dangerous and expensive stuff. This is truly a poor man's find! Had to sell 4 firearms to fund it and it's a big step to my minimalist future with 2 bespoke rifles only.

Received a good looking target with the rifle, understand is that these are all regulated with Hornady factory ammo. Still need to shoot it and will let you know the results.

I have a big favour to ask of anyone willing to post my pics if I can email them to you, just send me a pm

Well done Porker!
Certainly is a great pick up for that price, I hope the fit is okay as you'll know why when she goes off!
As far as 2 rifles.....sorry mate I have to disagree, I like too many varieties of rifles & calibres!
Sorry about the posting I'm bloody useless when it comes to that, there is a 'posty note' under main index / IT help of how to do so & Rothhammer has a site that can do it - only it's in German!

Ok, maybe 3 ...(grin)

Thanks for your reply, useless is my middle name when it comes to posting pics, I'm thinking Geeks2U is the answer, just get one of those scrawny buggers with thick glasses come sort out my lack of grey matter with postings

Something that easy to carry, easy to shoot ,nice ''small'' double ! good all rounder much better than a 375

It's darn heavy! But having only held another Merkel once ... 375 HH, in a gun shop in South Africa, I would have nothing to compare it with, and I'm definitely not picking up an English double to spoil the ignorance.

Good purchase, I think that you will be happy with it. A little bit of extra weight won't go astray when it comes time to fire a dozen rounds in a row at a shoot, better to be a little heavy than to light.

Matt.

I've got the same rifle, post up some photos of how it regulates with your chosen load, be interested to compare notes.

Porker,
Any updates on the Merkel, have you shot it yet?
What's your thoughts on it please?

I had a similar Merkel in .470. It was a good shooter and had an OAL that made it a pleasure to carry in the bush. The weight is well balanced between the hands and once you acclamatize to it, you won’t actually find it objectionable to carry. As others have mentioned earlier in this thread, you will appreciate some extra weight when you squeeze a trigger.
