Howdy. New to shooting double rifles, but not new to shooting. Have a 9.3x74r sxs and a .470NE o/u, both Sabatti. They shoot great, good regulation. I'm looking at a Ernst Kerner Suhl (sp? ) double in .450 NE. Would like to hear both about the caliber and maker. Gun is possibly from the late 30's. I also shoot and reload for other .458 firearms, 45-70, .458 Win Mag /lott, so have moulds and reloading components in common for that caliber, so that might be nice. Thanks |

CB, first of all welcome aboard mate! You have picked an excellent calibre, one that all others are judged by. I can't comment on the maker, but one of our German or European members may be able to find something for you. If you have photos of the water table & barrel areas it will be much easier for them to do so. Cheers 93x64mm |

Thanks, working on getting some pictures. Re: Your comment on calibers, were you praising the .450 or .470 ? |

I do think that in this day and age (and always for that matter) that the 450 is a much more versatile rifle when it comes to bullet types and weights to try as you well know from your own experience. In fact, although not the 450 3-1/4”, when Holland & Holland touted the accuracy of their 500/450 nitro all of the superior groups were shot using their 365gr bullet in rifles very likely regulated for the 480gr bullet. And that, gentlemen, is where the much lauded (and believed to be modern) idea of the 75% rule came from. Also, another welcome to NitroExpress and we look forward to your reports not only on the 450 but on your other two doubles. |

Thanks. I absolutely love the 470NE. I was initially a bit hesitant about that cartridge, but it was fine with my magnum shoulder pad. At 50 yards I am getting virtually overlapping making a figure 8, as long as I do my part. The sxs 9.3x74 has about 3/8" between the holes in the target at 50yds. I did quite a bit of reading on Sabatti, and am aware of their regulation issues a while back. I talked to a few current owners including a guide that writes a blog on his overseas hunts before taking the plunge. Got the 9.3 first, felt very happy with the fit and finish. Decided to get the o/u, as I love o/u shotguns. And again was very pleased. |

Congratulations on your rifles. They both sound like winners and you shoot them well. So, go hunting! |

https://www.buffaloarms.com/476-405-grai...ger-jim476405gc That is the only .475/6 bullet mould listed by Buffalo Arms from their moulds - out of stock. RCBS lists this one from Buffalo Arms- out of stock: https://www.buffaloarms.com/474-500-grn-fn-bullet-mould-for-470-ne-rcbs-rcb57924 There are dozens of moulds available in .458, maybe hundreds. |

Tell me about it. I already cast for .458, but have been unable to find a mold for my .470 |

Welcome to NitroExpress. I do not cast my own bullets so might be out wrong on this. Try CBE for 470 moulds. They have the 470 listed. |
