Hi. Thanks for accepting my request to join your forums. I am 66 from Cairns and have owned rifles from a Remington .17 to a 460 Weatherby Magnum, and heaps in between. But my bucket list rifle has always been a Nitro Express Double, so I bit the bullet and bought one when I was in the States last September, and it should be here in 3 weeks, so will be asking for heaps of advice on loads etc from the forum members. I have bought Graeme Wrights book on double rifles as well as the Woodleigh reloading book, but first hand knowledge from guys who own and shoot these rifles is what it is all about, particularly with members who have shot big game with there's. I hopefully will get to try it out on NT buffalo at Easter, with some pigs and brumbies before hand. So as soon as it arrives I will post some photos, by the way it is a Butch Searcy 500 double. Cheers Baz. |

Welcome Baz - with the book in hand and the rifle on the way, you're well ahead of the normal DR "Beginner". I'm not there yet. |

B1, We will be certainly looking forward to seeing those photos! GW's NFB load in the 500 does goes very well indeed. Bloody envious B2 |

Baz, welcome to the forums! I can tell you there is much satisfaction in owning and shooting double rifles. They are addictive. You may follow your .500NE with a nice medium bore, say a .303 or 9.3x74R. Enjoy! Curl |

And of coarse there is always 577 and 12 bore. |

Wayne my dream double is a 577, but a bit out of my price range. But after using my mates 500 on a cape buffalo, the 500 will do. And that was my only alternative price wise. I also had a couple of shots out of a 470, but thought that was a bit tame. LOL. |

If you wear a Past Recoil Shield it tames them all down. Unless it doubles (like mine did the other day). |
