Hi there I recently purchased a I Hollis and Sons 500/450 NE on an auction I looking for a date of manufacture ! The proof marks seems like it is very similar to the Birmingham proofs of 1896-1904 Serial Number is 61620 There is no address on the gun, further complicating the dating At a stage I saw a serial number list with associated dates of manufacture for the Hollis company but I am unable to find that post again The gun was advertised as a BPE gun but during the bidding someone realized that is was actually proofed for a cordite load , so I went for it The bore looks like new and the case hardening is in very good nick Any help would be appreciated Kind regards |

Nigel Brown's British Gunmakers Volume 3 says 1896-1904 but does not list rifles and shotguns seperately. |

I don't have anything for dating, but here's a brief Load Discussion from a few years back on this 70gr load. |

Certainly a great old rifle there Frikkie007 Will be a bit over the top for bears on full loads, but the NFB load should be pretty good on them! |

Thanks for the info guys! I'm super happy with the rifle, can wait to get it shooting again! Thanks for the link with the reloading thread as well Tinker I took my 450 NE 3.25" out for Black bear hunting 2 seasons ago....what a blast! Cheers Frederik |
