Certainly a different style of engraving isn't it?
Must say though that it is beautifully done, me I guess it depends on what the character the gun requires.
To me an old English single shot rifle has to have large filigree around borders & to highlight certain features, barrel trigger guard etc
The old shotgun, again filigree but a much smaller type covering the action
But a rifle in a German calibre like 7x64mm, oak leaves and acorns a must - even on the stock too.
That's what makes an 'average' rifle that much more personal & unique.
I bet you guys out there have got some real classic examples of engraving out there

Traditional engraving is lovely and often perfect. I too would have a Holland & Holland or Purdey with traditional engraving, what else would one choose.

Verney-Carrons, like this one, are one offs, not the same as the dozen other rifles to come out of the English maker that year or more. Based on original artwork, the engraving is designed to tell a story. In this case, hunting and the wildlife of the Big Five.

Like the earlier Cape Buffalo L'Atelier Bespoke double rifle, I would jump at one of these in I could.

I particularly like the "Elephant walk" on the trigger guard and grip strap.
