IF EVER THERE WAS A 400 JEFFERY TO OWN!!

At the next Julias auction
Being a huge Corbett fan, I think I might be inclined to sleep with this baby!
IMO, arguably the most famed double of the 20th century.

The late Jim Corbett’s Tiger Rifle-the best quality boxlock .450-400 by W.J. Jeffery & Co., with which he killed so many man-eating tigers for the Indian government (Elmer Keith Estate Coll.).

I don't think there would be any argument with your opinion. Certainly probably plenty of doubles used by the Maharajas of India to shoot many tiger over the years but no double so steeped in history for taking man-eaters by one person hunting on his own as Jim Corbett did.

Maybe tonight is my lucky Lotto night!!!!!

Wow that is some piece of history.

An estimate of price? I would think whatever it was it would go for more.

Thanks for posting.

I am not one to overpay for provenance, but this one beckons a huge premium. I may have to reread "India". To me, hunting tigers, man-eaters, is the ultimate skill. These tigers hunted people and were smart, leading you down a ravine , doubling back and killing with a ridiculous speed. Corbett ultimatley only hunted man eaters. .None of the hunting from a howdah basket on an elephant, He was up front and close. His stories are fantastic. A time gone by forever.

Re: IF EVER THERE WAS A 400 JEFFERY TO OWN!!

I've owned a Jeffery 450 No. 2 and handled many other Jeffery rifles in various calibers, BL and SL, and never been impressed with their noted "weight between the hands" feel, in fact I sent my Jeffery on down the line due to this, however, this one is the best, quickest pointing rifles I've shouldered. The wear on the checkering makes it feel like a worn bar of soap, or shaking hands with an old friend. Disregarding the provenance, most seeing this on a table at a show would label it a worn old BL, but this one does have some magic. Probably why it was used so well.
