does anyone have a 577 BPE hammergun? I'm looking at one and wondering what look out for and also reloading this beast is it easy. I like the big caliber stuff,I'm tempted to just get a 500 or 450 BPE nitro for black proofed gun,it appears this is only for Black powder no nitro because of the twist of the barrels... |

Curl's example is so very nice. Note that a fellow will spend years looking for the right .577 BPE double rifle - he could spend a couple years in search of *any* .577 BPE double rifle. Best to you in your search. Have the money at the ready. Cheers Tinker |

Quote: My John Patstone 577 BPE works just fine with loads of NfB. Are you saying the rifling of the barrels or is a Damascus twist to the barrels? Either way with good sounds tubes I'd use NfB loads down them. |

470NEBD: Remember that in almost all cases with correctly-designed bullets (hard-cast, paper-patched or thin jacket), the Nitro-for-Black load is understood to generate less chamber pressure that the original BP load. ...and with heavier bullets! You may well be doing any BP rifle a big favor by feeding it with an appropriate light nitro load. Read Wrighty's book "Shooting the British Double Rifle" for the inside skinny on this. In my experience with a number of vintage doubles, the rifling twist-rate is never a consideration. Hope this helps |

Gents: I don't spend as much time here as I should, but I have a few bpe rifles for sale, including a .500 and a .577. You can see the .577 on my website <calpappas.com> On the navigation bar, click on double rifles for sale and the .577 is the first one. I also have a Powell .500x3". It is not on the site yet. You can email me at <pappas@mtaonline.net> for any info, photos, etc. Cheers, Cal PS. While I'm at it I also have a nice 8-bore on my site for sale, too. It is placed under the .577. A best quality Jeffery box lock 8, ball and shot gun. Lots of nice double rifle photos on my site. Have a look. |
