I want to get a decent canvas and leather trunk case for my left-handed Searcy Field Grade .450 NE with 26" barrels. Jeff's Outfitters has one for $200 that looks ok in the photo. The case that came with my Trail Guns Armory Kodiak MKIV 20 years ago is nice enough for me. The case won't be used on airlines. I have a Hardigg Storm case for situations like that. I just wanted a traditional type case for automobile travel. Does anyone have any experience with the Jeff's Outfitters Canvas & Leather Double Rifle Case? http://jeffsoutfitters.com/store.aspx?panel=3&productid=495&categoryid=71 Does anyone have any other recommendations? I planned on a price limit of $300. I don't need a vintage case since it is a new rifle. It would be nice if I could have the right side of the stock, where the cheekpiece is, showing like most cases show the left side for right-handers, but that is not absolutely necessary. TIA |

I have a drilling/double canvas and leather case from Jeff's outfitters and am pretty pleased with it considering the price. It has a spot for a scope so it holds my Springer well. |

Try giving Jeff a call and ask if the "canvas and leather standard case" # C/LCAS 1155 will work for left handed rifle. I think it does and it is a bit cheaper. All these cases will work fine for protecting your rifle. I have had one for 10 years that I use on my favorite hunting DR. Still working after quite a bit of use. Good hunting Raff |

Jeff sent a nice reply and recommended his compact case in either leather or canvas & leather. He also wrote what size would be best and other helpful info. Size - 12ga 28" (block the last 2") Use a leather patch or something in the lid where the express sights touch the material or the sights will tear the felt. He has many customers that have used this case for a rifle. Case dimensions are 31" x 8 1/4" x 3 1/2". Green interior only. The Ultimate Compact Gun Case Canvas & Leather 12/16ga up to 28" Model #C/LCAS1030.2 $189.95 |

I have a case made by Marvin Huey www.hueycases.com I am very very happy with it. I would assume he can use canvas also. Well worth a try |

Jeff gave me a great price on a leather case that was a left over from the previous owners. These cases came with a lot of spare parts to custom fit the case to your gun. It was under $200.00. |

Hi Okguy, Also have a look at www.emmebi.it they make custom cases for Chapuis, Merkel & Zoli to name just 3. I have had several cases made for me by them and was never disapointed. Cheers, Jeff Gray |

Hi Huntersheart, I could not fault any of the cases that I have purchased, I think that it is about 6 so far. If you want some-thing special, they will make it to suit or the Internal layout to suit if you give them all the details, outline of gear, measurements etc. They will also send samples of the leather and felt if you ask for them. The guy that I use is named "Aimo" never met him but will bend over backwards to make sure all is well with the job. My suggestion is to have a design in mind and quote their model number and go from there. English Emails are pretty good although you will find some grammar errors but you will understand the gist of the conversations. Cheers, Jeff Gray |

Those Huey cases are gorgeous. However, they are beyond my reach. If I ever got a nice vintage double without a case, Huey would be a great choice. You know the fantasy. You go to a garage sale and a guy has a "funny looking Dutch shotgun" that he can't get shells for. It turns out to be an H&H double rifle and you get it for next to nothing. You are so excited that you start to run home with it and even forget that you drove to the sale in your car. After 40 years of that fantasy I must say that it ages better than the women I've fantasized about. |

Hi crkennedy1, As I said I would do last night, I ordered two of their Scoped Gun Cases in Tan and a cap and now the wait begins until they arrive in a week or two. The shipping & handling at US$130 it should be overnight... but when you want some-thing you pay for it. Again Thanks, Jeff Gray |
