"How to make a Howdah handgun." Suggestions, ideas, what people have done. |

I believe the BGRC Howdah's competition allows or has separate categories for smooth bore and rifled howdahs. Maybe breech and muzzle loading? I imagine some guys have made up shortened shotguns as a howdah. Minimum calibre is .38. Perhaps the maximum calibe as well? Seeing .38 is often the maximum calibre size legally anyway. Bit of a letdown for a howdah though. I wonder if a cutdown 12 gauge is legal in Australia? Anyone doing it? BTW does anyone actually shoot the BGRC Howdah competition? In SA I know the police claim greater than .38 is only justified for knocking down metal silhouette. Perhaps a full sized silhouette could be used?! Interested in answers to the above. Plus any comments, plans, ideas you have for or on howdahs. Or what you have actually bought or done or used. |

12 bore muzzleloading SxS set of barrels would work into a pistol and that would be doable/legal here, at this time, if registered as a handgun (restricted firearm). I would think that a 12 bore ctg. gun might not be quite legal - be classified as a cut-off shotgun, even if pistol gripped, due to readily available ammunition. A set-back handle would allow the "long-arm" locks, and yet still have the pistol grip. Would look "off" though. |

Quote: Those look horrible. Pedersoli has the cartridge SxS handgun in 45 Colt / 410 shotshell. https://www.davide-pedersoli.com/scheda-...oli-howdah.html This chamber is a great opportunity to use different brass and Colt diameter bullets with huge powder loads if you dare. I've had over 60 grains 3031 and 300 grain bullets in a similar chamber, but in a much lighter single barreled handgun. That's right up there in "stomp the shit out of them" performance. |

Those Muzzleloades do look awful, as-do the Pedersoli's to my eye - about the same with their ML as their .45/410. On the ML's, it's to use improper locks and on Ped.'s ctg. gun, it's the same stock pretty much, lengthened instead of inlet for the lock. This one, is as they should be. |

Nice Daryl. The one listed before not so nice Longknife. (gets my vote for ugliest gun of the year). |

Daryl I agree with you on the Pedersoli architecture issues, and yes that Purdey is lovely. I have those images of that pistol saved in many places. It's a honey. |

The Pedersoli model you showed is indeed somewhat lacking in aesthetics. However they do make a much nicer model called the Howdah Hunter. https://www.davide-pedersoli.com/tipologia-prodotti.asp/l_en/idt_29/pistols-howdah-hunter.html |

The cartridge model needs an extensive facelift I have one of the percussion 16b SxS models It prints ball side by side, right next to each other very nicely with big charges of black powder |

Quote: The Cartridge Gun shouldn't be a Howdah but would make a darn nice little rifle with a 18-22in barrel & a butt stock ! I used some 30 Blaser cases blown out straight & long loaded in my H&R 45Colt/410, would match a 45/70 even shot 454 Casull in it mild as ! Was a lot more accurate loaded that way to ! |

I agree that the Ped. percussion SxS is considerably "better" than the ctg. version. |

Have any Aussies had a 'howdah' created for shooting the BGRC competition? Or anyone know of someone having had it done? Interested in what it was, assuming it has been done. And any legal issues. |
