12-bore double rifle
|

Some of you long-timers may remember that the first double rifle that I built was a 12-bore. Last evening it took its twelfth whitetail, a huge buck, at 123 yards. One shot with a Lightfield Hybred slug through the lungs, dropped him stone-cold dead where he stood! Attached are a few photos:

That stag looks in tip-top condition as well, plenty to store in the freezer for Christmas.

Ron real nice buck what rifled chokes are you using.? And will they work Sabot?

They are NOT rifled chokes, but fully rifled barrels, from way back when Hastings made barrel blanks available, built in the USA.

What make of shotgun did you use to base it on?

It's a very fine Belgian gun, made by Neumann Brothers, back in the 30's. Someone had fired it with an obstruction in the left barrel and burst it. believe it or not, I bought the gun for $20!

One of our ex not to be named members used to buy lots of nice doubles from London auction houses. Where if the gun was out of proof or not correct chambering would cut holes in the barrels and then sell off the often nice walnut stocked and often nicely engraved side by side shotguns for anything from GBP10 to GBP100.
They still may do this.
Some of them if cuitablke would make fantastic starts for some great projects.
