A very close friend of mine is desirous of obtaining a .450/400 rifle - double or single bl. Anyone have one for sale or know where he could obtain such a piece? Apparently Ruger will build one on a #1 for him, but, he's open. |

I’ve been thinking of selling my Ruger No.1 but he should be able to find one on the used market pretty easily. I also have a Westley Richards 1897 but that’s a pretty high $$ gun for most folks. How easy or difficult is it for Canadians to import firearms? |

Thanks for the response, Huvius. I'm not sure if Keith has an FFL import license or not, otherwise, about impossible - unless the article could be shipped to a close-to-the-border address & he picked it up and carried it across the border. That works with firearms class air rifles which are no different than the .450/400 in the eyes of the government here. Too, I guess he could check gun-nutz forum. I think Ruger will make one up for about $2,000.00. |

From memory Chapuis and Merkel make .450/400's. Second hand from say $6000 to $8000 plus. Verney-Carron and Heym as well. More for them second hand. |

Yeah, that is one to pass on - at any price. Interesting, it looks to have been a dovetail lump rifle from the start so could be put right with a completely new lump rather than the job that was done to it. Just goes to show, one shouldn’t be tempted by “entry level” nitro doubles. Even in this market, any below $8K tend to have their issues. |
