WTB 500 BPE Rifle
|
|
Looking for a 500 BPE rifle for the 3 inch case. Open to a double, but want something that I don't have to worry too much about taking into the field.

Curly has a nice .500 BPE! I've handled it.

Have you considered rebarreling a Ruger #1 to 500 BPE? With a medium weight barrel you'd have a rifle that would be easy to carry that could shoot a variety of loads and not have to deal with regulation issues. Best.

Here's one of my little 500 BPE rifles. A Thomas Mortimer single shot. Outside has seen a bit of use, but the interior of the barrel is perfect, it has Henry Rifling in it. I shoot a 350 grain Paper Patch bullet with blackpowder. I shot it last weekend in one of our local Blackpowder matches and had a ball with it. It weighs 6lb 15.25 oz, I'm guessing it would have been right on 7lb when it was ordered.

Lovely rifle 450! I have a few Alex Henry patent falling blocks but none in 500BPE. Would sure like to have one though, the 500 being about the top end of comfort IMO for a single shot. Please do a write up on your rifle and the competition if you’re up to it.

Wow Ackley that is a beauty, I was chasing a .577BPE in Europe a couple of years back but couldn't make the deal work for me (lack of funds as normal) I was wondering on the recoil of that one !

Yes- WOW - and at 7 pounds, is exceptionally light for a 3" or 3 1/4" .500.
I would think something along the line of a .50/70 (.50 1 3/4") at that weight would be more controllable.
Second thought, might not be THAT bad with a 300gr. I was thinking of my old .50 3 1/4" sharps with 140gr. 2F or 170gr. ICI 1F and a 550gr. bullet. It was rather nasty with both of those, even though over 10 pounds.
Yes, and like that lovely little .500 BPE, a steel butt plate.

What a delightful little Mortimer you have there DC - she's an absolute corker! Certainly will be a handful for BPE events, then again you shoot the .585 Nyati if I remember correctly, so after that it would be so bad after all!

I've got a 600 Overkill as well...
Just started another thread on it so as not to de-rail this one anymore than I have.
