The Winchester Brothers - Big and small

Winchester Model 1887. Manufactured in 1889. Chambered in 10 gauge.
Winchester Model 1887. Manufactured in 1891. Chambered in 12 gauge.
These should arrive next week, will get a chance then to inspect the bores in more detail. In the meantime I can start loading up some classic black powder shells in preparation for seeing how they shoot.

Thanks 9,3, there is no shortage of them here in Alabama that's for sure. I'm thinking I'll get about one shot and there will be so much smoke in the air I won't have a clue which way they ran off in, lol

What is the 'choke' if sny Trailboss?
Might be able to do a ball load as well?

Both are full choke.

Guess a full choke will rule out a 'ball' load then!
Will be interesting to see what loads you come up with mate; have you got brass cases to go with these fine ladies or will you use conventional cases & BP?

I enjoy my 10 gauge. Lot of fun with some blackpowder shells. Mine is also full choke but I have long thought about trying some round balls. Maybe some patched round balls of the appropriate size would be worth trying.

Mine is well used. Sling and recoil pad added. Bet it has some stories to tell. Makes a good turkey gun.

I have a box of mag tech 12 ga brass, Some Winchester paper Hulls that I will roll crimp to 2-5/8". I have plenty of 12 paper hulls of straight wall design. The ten is more interesting. I have quite a few paper 2-7/8" plus some in plastic also. I own a early Savage 10 ga chambered for the 3-1/2" shell so all the Winchester paper I have in that length I refuse to cut down for the lever, but I am going to attempt to locate a source or a supply of ten gauge paper in the 2-7/8" length. I'm looking forward to working with these two pieces of Old West Americana history.

Remington plastic hulls cut to 2 7/8" loaded with 19gr Red Dot an sp 10 wad 1 oz shot and a roll crimp is a nice easy shooting load for the old 10ga guns. Use it in several of my Damascus barrel guns. Thanks to the guys on the PGCA forum. A 6pt crimp also works. If you find a source for 10ga paper hulls I would love to know. By the way I am in Ga what part of Al are you from.

Thanks for the info on your loads. If and when I find a source for the ten gauge paper hulls I'll be posting that for all to have. I'm currently in Mobile. Use to live in and around 285 perimeter back in the seventies when I worked for Delta at the jet base. Riverdale, east point, ect. Must have moved six or seven times while I working for them until 75 when I moved out to AZ to go back to college on the GI bill. After spending almost forty years in the dry climes of the Southwest, being here in Mobile is very depressing weather wise, so many days that one could be doing outdoor stuff are rained out here, AZ has just over 325 days a year of clear sunshine weather. Will most likely be moving back in the near future, funny how all the years in Atlanta I didn't think all that much about all the rain that they have there too.

Cordite, sweet looking 10. I think you get the better of the hunting terrain for turkeys in your woods than here in bama. Everything is just so thick in most places here. Like your setup with strap and swivels.
