5x58 Sturdevant

a friend is selling now a 5x58 Sturdevant, DWM case number 469A





was tested by the prussian rifle commission as a possible replacement for the 8x57 around 1900. the bullet have a 5,17 mm diameter and is 35,6 mm long - must be a brilliant penetrator!
when I have to much time ...

Interesting cartridge !

I think but that as member of the Prussian rifle commission I would also have rejected this cartridge, especially if one consider the types of powder that were available at the time.

The cartridge, except the bullet, reminds me a little of the cartridge 5,6x61 S.E. vom Hofe, which also caused some problems and still does at times.
