32 cattle killer

anyone knows this cartridge? looks like a 32 acp case. in use with this typical british made cattle killer ?

Thanks for showing the cartridge. I have read about "cattle killer" cartridges but not seen one. Looks like a 32acp with big hollow point bullet, say a reversed wad cutter.

The first CKiller bullet with the huge hollow point cannot be meant to penetrate the skull - can it? It's not a shaped charge & would not act as one, as far as I can see as a shaped charge has a detonation component to drive a sharp metal forward through the material it contacts.
Friends of mine are butchers. Franz (Swiss butcher) uses his BRNO .22LR for dispatching cows & horses. It only works well with .22 Stingers, I assume due to the higher velocity.
The do not work against large Hereford bulls, but the .22 Hornet I gave him, with 40gr. HP's at 2,900fps, does wonderfully against the bulls.
The .22 Stinger round and Hornet only work due to velocity.

Good info. I was surprised by the very large hollow point in the bullet that Lancaster showed however, that is from a box of Cattle Killers.
Your friend's comments on the use of the 22LR and 22 Hornet are interesting.
When we lived in a rural area, the common round for killing hogs was a 22LR; I believe shot in the ear.

Some butchers back in Ontario used .22's for hogs as well. The local butcher in the town I grew up in, just slung them up on a chain by one hind leg and slit their throat, once in each side. It was rather gruesome, but local folks said Brooks Butcher Shop had the best pork & hams of any butcher shop in Southern Ontario.
No other .22 LR they'd tried was consistent in going through the skull, frontally, of the cows. Just the CCI .22 Stringer. I used to bring them a brick of them every spring when we went to shoot gophers for a week. We'd camp out in the shop and set up our kitchen out the back-side of the shop, East side for the warm morning sun. The huge overhand kept the rain off our 'camp'.

We used to kill all of ours with a 22lr, never had a problem with one doing the job.
More power is a more sure thing but we never needed it, the hardest part was getting them out of the crush once they were dead.

Same-- My dad and us kids as we grew up killed all our steers, pigs, rogue dogs, cats, etc with the 22LR.. never failed us.. Bullet placement is primary..

We killed fed steers --normally always sold the bulls unless one got injured.. broke his leg or his pecker.. then, yup, he got turned to burger...

we have butchered two sheep last saturday, using a real gun is not legal here. another reason beside its not legal is the fact you have bullets sometimes coming out on the side in an unforeseeable direction and hit bystander.they had some serious accidents in the slaugtherhouse when using revolver.
german ingenuity invented the Kerner/Blitz captive bolt pistol that is not a gun under local gun law.this thing is more or less the same for over 100 years now.
its very simple and reliable, I have cleaned one in the neighborhood the first time after 50 years
the blank cartridge is another version of the very old 380short CF, for americans better known as 38 short colt
never notice before the bolt have a similar holow point like the 32 greener catle killer above
