How to make a perfect fitting, TP paper wad to fit perfectly to the ball's base. From 9 minutes on, Jeff from Taufledermaus explains the reason for the wads and how he made them. Good stuff & easy to make. These wcould easily be used in conjunction with card of felt wads for proper column height. Lyman Shotshell Loading Manuals give data for powder and wads for various shotshells. I am quite interested in trying these in my rifled barrel with .724" groove diameter) with either .704" or the perhaps even the larger .724" balls. Those, I might roll in bullet lube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mClz8nMLvyw&ab_channel=TAOFLEDERMAUS |

Thats interesting. I get my own .690 cast round balls centered in a plastic shot cup loaded over a lubed fiber wad and get decent accuracy in a smooth bore. Someone would have to prove to me these MT balls are superior in accuracy before I would want to spend a buck thirty a piece for them! |

Humm, I go the opposite direction and end up with a bunch grouse for Dinner. Couple of year ago we cut open some 12 gauge shotgun shells and pulled out the wad and shot. Load 130 grains of FG down the barrel of our 75 cal EIC Muskets. Pushed the plastic wad from the 12 gauge shell down over the powder. Poured in the shot and put a card wad over the top. Normally I load 130 grain Fg, 3/4 felt wad .735 round ball, 3/4 felt wad. (sidenote:b een told to try .750 RB in my musket, if the balls will go. So much the same as the 12 gauge load with out the plastic case. |

130 gr. is va stout load. Yes it is, especially using FFG, not as stout using Fg. Standard load for International Percussion Smooth bore Musket Match, 13 rounds on B17 target at 50 yards-best ten shots score. Hog hit at 20 yards with this load was knocked down, got up and walked away. It was found the next day with the help of the buzzards a ways past where I stopped looking...no blood trail. |

Daryl, That is an interesting video. Well though out soft wad. DD, I believe that is a 5 dram load. What velocity do you get and are you using rifle or musket nipples? I used a similar load (120 gr FFg) in a 58 cal musket with minnie ball and musket nipple and found the hammer recocked from gas pressure from the nipple. I think it blew the skirts out from the minnie ball as it wasn't that accurate. |
