8 bore

http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_info.php?cPath=350_368_372&products_id=42646 Not sure if this is the place to post it, but here is an 8 bore Tipping and Lawden for sale. I love the looks of it, but not sure what could be done with it due to gun laws for a larger than 10 gauge shotgun

Re: 8 bore

very nice fowler, love it

"8 Gauge; good bore, good stock, 34'' barrel, Manufactured in England circa 1850s. Browned finish Damascus part octagon barrel with bead front sight. Mounted in a walnut stock with checkered wrist, single wedge forend with bone cap. Ramrod appears to be original. Gold bands over the chamber. Scroll leaf engraving on lock and small iron stock mountings. Marked on the lockplate "TIPPING & LAWDEN" and on top of the barrel "TIPPING & LAWDEN LONDON". The stock is over all good, there are two old cracks on the left side of the butt and a tiny chip of wood missing on the right side upper edge of the forend. The action works well. Antique, "

Re: 8 bore

Joshua,
The game laws in the US are such that it is the gauge of the shell that the gun accepts can not be larger than 10 gauge.
Since this is a muzzleloading gun it takes no shell.
Remember that there are many shotguns out there that are chambered for the 10 gauge shell that are over bored to 8 gauge, i.e. a chamberless shotgun.
I know of no game wardens who carry chamber gauges, nor do I believe that they pay any attention to those of us who enjoy using such novel pieces to hunt with.

Just my two cents worth.

Re: 8 bore

Unless you can make it shoot with something beside lead shot I would keep it away from the geese and ducks.
