G'Day Fella's, There has been a bit of a rush on CZ 550's (aka= Brno ZKK 602), in .375 H&H, .416, .458's, as apparently, CZ have stopped making them. I'm not sure if this is completely correct and or if CZ have a replacement in the pipline? If this is the end of the 550 magnum length action, well that will be a shame. From what I have been told, part or all of the problem, may have been their Australian agents/distributors ..................... Double D'oh!! Homer |

Be nice to know if this is true or just their agent, Winchester Australia, is not importing them anymore. |

Is this accurate??? |

CZ USA still has them? https://cz-usa.com/product-category/rifles/safari/ Most typically our end. We can only hope NIOA becomes the agent, but only time will tell; at least they'll do a better job than Winchester - phone calls & emails are just ignored! |

What I have found out from a gun dealer is the CZ550 magnums to be made in limited quantity's and the 550 up to 9.3 to be discontinued. Nothing official just talk in the trade. |

One of the few modern made rifles and brands worth buying, today IMO. Other than makers in niche markets and smaller volume makers. |

That would be a shame. I know a lot of folks in the states favor Win Model 70s, but we have both and I have to say my CZ 550 in 500 Jeffery is so solid, no wiggle in the bolt and so accurate I like it more. |

Nice looking rifle, nice timber and the replacement bolt shroud makes all the difference, Matt. |

apparently discontinued the 'standard' calibers(3006, 270, 243, etc.) except special order in the Safari model configuration. Safari models still in production. from their website. damn shame, nice Mauser action in an affordable package, hammer forge barrel, etc., etc. go figure the modern consumer. |

Too many inexperienced hunters are just fine with PFs, as they have no appreciation of the history or benefits of a Mauser/CRF action. That, and 99.9% of them hunt nothing larger than deer (at least in the U.S.), and even then much of that is done with a 12ga slug-gun or some flavor of lever-action. Mauser-pattern/CRF rifles I have are a BRNO 602 ZKK, a CZ 550, and my grandfather's 'pre-war' Winchester Model 70. |

Quote: I am THAT GUY... Personally think the CRF action is way over rated and over stated.. I know, I know, blasphemy..especially on this site.. oh well.. Seriously, I have been on 6 hunts in Africa..used a PF Rem custom shop in .416 for all the hunts with the exception of one, I used a Sako model 75 in 375H&H... no issues..hunted cape buffalo, elephant, lion, croc, hippo, leopard and dozens of plains game..no issues.. Having said that, I have an acquaintance who is a very well known international hunter. His wife was almost killed by a cape buffalo using a CRF Winchester years ago while hunting in Zim.. My point is, they both work.. I have both..but like the Rem..I have a fairly expensive CRF custom in my gun safe..yet, if I was too leave tomorrow morning for a buff hunt I would still take the Rem.. I do like the CZ's... and would have no problem using one to build a nice custom --or a nice crf Winchester action.. personally I don't care of the mauser actions..never have..but, that's just me.. each to their own..if you like them, fine..use them.. |

PF vs CRF is a very tiresome debate. They both can work. They both can jam up and misfeed. I like CRF simply because it is more complex and it peaks my mechanical design interest and appreciation, (much like a Luger does for me) but to say it is a safety requirement to hunt DG is misleading. The CZ Safari is a reasonable platform at a very reasonable price and it would be a shame if it were ever to be truly discontinued. It is on my “one day, I’ll buy one” list. I have only hunted DG a couple of times now, with another hunt on the near horizon and every time, I primarily hunt with a double, but my spare rifle always defaults to my Sako Kodiak PF in .375 H&H. Sako likes to claim it’s model 85 is a CRF, but it sure looks like a PF to me. Point is, I have full confidence in it, I like it’s short barrel and fast handling, and it is utterly and completely reliable in my hands. |
