Ed Hubel has done more than this with the Savage 210 Ben |

Hello Ben, what about the Heym Express rifle in .600 NE? They offer this caliber in their program, and you can get everything fancy in their custom shop. I own a Heym Express in .500 A-Square and it is a good rifle! best regards Rolf |

Hallo Rolf! It is a wonderful gun....... But, I am thinking of something ending up at a few thousand euros/dollars. Can it be done? Ed has done the 12ga fh using the Savage, so guess this is fine for the meager .600 ne. What others could handle it?? Viel Dank Ben |

Ben, Unless you want a 600NE for the nostalgia, why not do a 600 Overkill in a CZ bolt rifle? Pretty easy conversion and they shoot great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpMUQ5Bz3ag&feature=channel_page |

Heyms have a really nice 577 and 600 nitro rifles but for this ima have to agree wtih jdj the 600 ok will throw a 900 grain slug about 300 fps faster then the nitro |

Ben, I must advise against a custom .600 NE bolt action. First off, where are you going to find a bolt big enough for that giant rim of the .600 NE? Second, where are you going to find a gunsmith who can make the thing feed? Better to spend $5K on a .600 Overkill. Your gun will feed and shoot great. Or save up for a .600 NE double. However, as person formerly known as an owner of a .600 NE, I would recommend something smaller. |

ima have to agree go with the overkill its one hell of a round |

Hi Yes I have considered this one....... I personally like the 600 ne though, and worry about the brass for the 600 jdj ok.....any sign of anyone offering it commercially yet? the brass? I would load it down!!! About 1800 fps is enough for me! What is left of the chamber after you put that thing in the CZ?! Thanks Ben |
Brass is not a problem as it is easily available from at least 2 sources, Heorneber & Jamison. All components for the the Overkill are easily obtainable and it's a very forgiving round to load and make work in these bolt guns. You can load it down to NE levels or push it up to monster power factors, well over 10,000 ft lbs if you have the stamina :-) |
What levels have you fired it at?! Also, whats the weight of the finished gun? Thanks! Ben |

Quote: I have taken 900gr Woodleighs & Kodiaks up to 2250 out of my 20" bbl & 1040gr Beartoothe LBT's to 2k. Those Beartooth's are just plain brutal at these speeds in my Ruger #1 600JDJ. The bolt 600 OK from AHR has such a good stock design I can push it hard before it becomes punishing. All of this is sooooo dependent on you, the shooter. If you are truely able to handle heavies these 600's aren't bad at all & NOTHING kills like they do, bigger or smaller & faster. My bolt 600ok weighs right at 11 lbs and my 600JDJ weighs 10.5 lbs. |

Is this Ed Hubel the same "Hubel" that makes the .700 for the Savage bolt gun out of 50bmg brass ????? |
Thanks 600 What sort of recoil energy are we talking of? Whats left of the chamber after reaming for the bigger round?(from .458 win no?) Yes Ed Hubel, I am in touch with him by mail every few days, super bloke! He intends to try a 12ga fh double soon! I think with the Zabala 10ga magnum. Ben |

Ben, My standard load is a 900grn doing 2050 fps. This load generates about 180 ft lbs of recoil at 32 fps recoil speed. Strong but not too bad in this rifle. As to metal in the chamber, that CZ 550 mag action easily handles the 600ok round as the head size is basically a 505 Gibbs. I absolutely love this rifle. |

Thanks She looks a treat! Def. the way to go given the difficulties organising a 600 ne. Ben |
It is not hard to organise .600NE's. It is just small ones or cheep ones that pose a problem, thats a 12 for comparison |

..Bramble.. One can only imagine what calibers those breechblocks of yours are made for...hahaha Looks Great |

-Um Bramble old chap.......I am tempted to ask if you also sell your wares!!! God in heaven knows what license you must have! Whereabouts in Blighty are you? I hail from Cornwall, or rather used to. Ben |

At least one person I've seen has made up to the .700 ne on the savage 210 action. The 12 fh that they made on the same action for exceeds the energy and force of the .700. Plus since regular 12ga rounds are rimmed as well the 210 can be modified to accept the smaller diameter .600 no problem. If you just want to have a gun to play around with, and not a dangerous game rifle that your life might depend on then I see no reason why you shouldn't consider the savage. If you are planning on hunting with it then I would say it would not be impossible with enough time and effort, but the .600 ok would be easier. I'm considering building a .500 ne on the savage action, just because I like the nostalgia of the old nitro express rounds. |

what was the basic case for the 600 overkill? 460 weatherby magnum? |
It's a .600 ne with a .505 Gibbs rebated rim. |
but there is a belt |

Yes- same Ed Huble. Much the same ballistics, plus a little when using 3 1/2" .5 Browning cases opened up, and in a Savage bolt action 12 gauge rifle with new barrel. Seems to me, the 12 bore shoots well over 1,000gr. at about 2,400 to 2,600fps. IIRC - just going from memory here - been a while since I read those ballistics, but 12,000 to 15,000FPE sounds about right. Not bad for a re-barreled $500.00 shotgun. |
the question again: the 600 overkill is a beltet case so it could not be made from 600NE brass, rigth? I understand you this way that both cartridge's share some measurments: lenght , base diameter, case mouth diameter. is it possible to make cases from 460 weatherby magnun brass? |
The 600 OK uses a unique case. See link below: http://www.hunting-rifles.com/600%20Overkill.htm |
