BGRC NSW - State Championship 6 Oct - Merkel Cup 7 Oct





The 2007 NSW Big Game Rifle State Titles will be held on the 6th of October, 2007, at the Windemere Shooting Complex* on Range No. 1. Registrations will start from 8am and shooting will commence at 10am. (* Windemere Shooting Complex is 235 kms from the Sydney GPO and 42km from Mudgee.

The following matches will be contested, in accordance with the National Rules:

Stalker Class
Nitro Group 1
Nitro Group 2
Blackpowder Express
Double Rifle (Stalker)
Stopper Class
Charging Animal
Nitro Group 3
Bore Gun
Double Rifle (Stopper)

Entry into each event will cost $5.00 and to be eligible for the title of State Champion, you must compete in, at least, four (4) events which must be two (2) from the Stalker events and two (2) from the Stopper events. If you compete in more events, then your two (2) best Stalker scores will be used with your two (2) best stopper scores to determine your overall result.

CATERING:
Lunch: Hot food, snacks and drinks will be on-sale, on the range, during the day. (Please note that there are no shops within easy driving distance of the range so if you do not want to buy your lunch then you should bring something to eat and drink.)


Dinner: There will be a presentation dinner, on the range, on the Saturday night and the theme will be a South African Braai**.(**Braai is the South African word for BBQ.)

Dinner will be a three (3) course meal at a cost of approximately $25*** per head and there will be South African wines and beers on sale. (*** This charge will be on a strictly no-profit basis intended only to recoup costs and so may vary slightly on the night.)

Bring a folding camp chair so that you can sit around the fire-pit (fire restrictions permitting) and talk about big game rifles and hunting.

On Sunday, the 7th of October, following the NSW BGR State Titles, we will be holding the inaugural ...

Merkel Cup

This will be a 'makers' competition with prizes for the top Merkel shooters.....

...but it is also open to any make of firearm with additional prizes for non-Merkel shooters!

There will be six events:


Events will range between 25m and 200m, all shot without the aid of rests or bipods, scopes up to 4x permitted, precision events will be shot in your own time, rapid-fire events are shot against the clock.

Impala Precision event for rifles of at least .243 calibre (20 rounds)

Warthog Rapid-fire event for rifles of at least .243 calibre (6 rounds)

Eland Precision event for rifles of at least .330 calibre (16 rounds)

Lion Rapid-fire event for rifles of at least .330 calibre (6 rounds)

Buffalo Precision event for rifles of at least .400 calibre (8 rounds)

Elephant Rapid-fire event for rifles of at least .400 calibre (6 rounds)

The entry fee, to shoot in the Merkel Cup, is $20.


Note: The rapid-fire events have been inspired by the Zimbabwe Professional Hunters Proficiency test
- so find out how you would fair as a PH in Africa!


There will be prizes for first, second and third in each event and your four (4) best scores will be tallied to determine the overall winners for best Merkel* shooter and best non-Merkel shooter.


(* The top Merkel shooter, and winner of the Merkel Cup must shoot all scorable events with Merkel firearms.)

As I was preparing for a Safari to Mozambique I unfortunately missed this event.
How was it and when is the next one?
