100 pounder taken in Zimbabwe

From an email from John Barth 24/10/2007.

The above true 100 pounder was taken by a Russian client with Zim outfitter and PH Thys De Vries.

"The right tusk was 82 inches in length and 21 inches in circumference and weighed out at 101.2 pounds. The left tusk was 78 inches in length and 21 inches in circumference and weighs out at 95 pounds.

The concession where the elephant was shot borders the Hwange National Park. In the past decade this concession and safari outfitter has produced several bulls with ivory in the 70+, 80+ and 90+ pound range, and now a legitimate 100 pounder. "

"The hunter who took this hundred pounder was going to take 2 elephant, but after this bull decided he had been blessed and finished his hunt early. "

Well done to the client and Thys De Vries. The De Vries boys continue to produce the big tuskers time and time again.

Re: 100 pounder taken in Zimbabwe

I've seen a bunch of photographs taken by Thys' brother Pen, of three elephants he guided clients for, all up there and one very near the magical 100. I remember seeing Thys' name mentioned at least once, maybe twice for big 90's tuskers recently. At last one of the tusks went over the mythical (today) 100 lbs.

Nice to see he finished his hunt early too. That's the quality of character in a true hunter.

Superb. And I agree, he did well to end the
hunt early.

Is one of those Tusks broken at the end ?
and therefore why it only got to 95 on one side.

Anyone care to venture a guess as to the actual trophy fee for this animal?

No idea, but suffice to say that if I had the opportunity I would worry about it later, even if it turned out to be a re-mortgage!

Oh-my-God what a wonderful beast I bet the lad was elated! All the things I read about zim these days I hope we are able to discover the wonders like this that reside there in the future without fear. A very rough time for the people of that country to say the least. The government has to be removed for the sake of the land.
