Leopard stalks an antelope.

ust like a human hunter, the leopard use a ridge or mound, in this case the earth verge of the roadway, crouching down as he moves forward, to get as close to the antelope as he could unseen, then the tree trunk. Holding still until the antelope starts to feed again. Then strikes.

Which of us human hunters, have not done the same to get into range of our prey?

One morning in Zim while walking to a lion blind in the dark, a buff was taken down by 2 lions literally less than 80 yards ahead of us.. we heard the roar and commotion, decided to veer off to our right and check it out on our return. THAT is when we found out what had actually happened..I found that very amazing ..

yes!
Daytime kill right in front of the camera!
A fairly rare occurrence I suspect.

The antelope should have gone with his gut feelings.. he paused and felt something was up.. BUT, went for another bite of grass.. THE END..

I saw leopard in broad daylight 3 different times while hunting in Zim.. once a female with 2 youngsters in tow were walking right along the trail in the middle of the afternoon.. Another time one appeared as we were walking into the blind..

Another time when I was hunting with a PH named Nixon in Zim, 2005, we saw a mother cheetah with 5 young who has just killed a porcupine.. incredible sight...

Stopped and looked at some close buffalo about 10am one morning in Tanz. Took a few photos and after a couple of minutes looked down into the grass about 15m in front of us. A large leopard we had been looking straight over at the buff was there, seemingly in plain sight - but not to us! It slunk off down a gully.

Saw a black leopard about 10am on a logging track in Borneo. Didn't know there were (Cloud) leopards in Borneo

Never have seen a leopard in Africa, but have seen tracks and heard them at night,

Same in India.

However have seen them in Sri Lanka, where they are larger and the biggest big cat. Saw them three times in a day or two. Including a leopard running down wild boar. I didn't see it sprint acorss the clearing but my wife and the guide on that side of the vehicle did. We had been waiting for it, listening to the "forest folk" tell us the movement of the leopard. The other two, one moving at distance in a creek, the other on a rock I think.

Leopard may hunt mainly at night, but where not theatened are also a day light hunter and beast.

I was exploring an area we ultimately drilled in the Livingstone Mountains overlooking Lake Malawi in Tanz (tough gig, but someone has to do it!). Lot of walking and mapping and a lot of nine foot grass - the big rains having just finished.

When we first went there I asked our local guide if there were any Leopard around - "Hapana Chui". Ok no leopard, strange I thought.

We came upon a shallow water filled creek bottom with a fresh dugout canoe submerged in it. On the mud flanks of the water was some rather good pug marks. Bosco, what are these , Chui! I thought you said hapana chui!

Seems they thought if I knew there were leopard there I wouldn't come back and spend any money
