Re: Do Giraffes charge?

Interesting. I know they are capable of kicking a lion to death if calves are threatened. Not sure of all the sound effects on the tape.

I have walked within 40-70 meters of them on numerous occasions.. in Cameroon and Zim..have never had an issue.. wonder what the real story is about that??

No I don’t think they charge on purpose, only away !

We shot a good size Bull today with a arrow from 30yds, he & the rest of the herd only charged off !

Last year in Zim, a Giraffe walked across a 20-acre clearing to get a better view of us working on an Eland. It stood behind a tree at about 20 yards and watched for a couple of minutes,_crazy!

Any wild animal or even domestic animal might charge. Even if rarely.

Got charged by a big fat Eastern Groundhog (Marmota Monax) once. That did not end well for him. LOL

I had two Kiwis - the actual birds - banzai charged me. Ran over my feet and kept going. Though I was going to be in for the fight of my life

Just watched the actual video and there are no noises from the Giraffe.

Re: Do Giraffes charge?

Nearly had myself and two passengers taken out by a mob of kamikaze giraffe in Tanzania. Was driving a 4wd when they came boiling out of the nyika across the road in front and behind us. Scared the crap out of me! Was some zebra mixed in there too. However the giraffe really had my attention. Stood on the brake and bought us to a pulsating stop.

I really don’t know why we didn’t hit at least one. They got big very fast! We looked back into the bush but nothing chasing them. The got across the road and just milled about.

Later re-reading John Pondoro Taylor he mentioned that as roads were developed in Africa the Giraffe liked to play “last across the road” like chickens! Boy was he ever correct.

Have some photos somewhere from the drivers seat.

I knew that if you go near them and are seen as a threat they will kick/stomp you into next week. Just look at how they deal with lions.
