Elephant in Ambroselli Kenya

Some more recovered old photos. I took these photographs on transparency film back in 1988.

A dead elephant guarded by its family herd in Ambroselli at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. Probably dead from poachers.

An askari is ready to challenge intruders on the left.

The family herd guarding the dead cow. A herd like this might remain in the vicinty of the dead elephant for many hours, even trying to lift the downed elephant, to help it, until eventually giving up hope on the dead elephant.

Sad the very young calf climbing on top of what is probably its mother.

The difference between poachers and sustainable managed hunting, is a cow with a calf would not be deliberately targeted. Poachers will kill any elephant even with the tinniest of tusks.
